who's been eating my brug and some other ot pics

I've been transfering the hornworms to some tomatoes that I grow for them. There's a variegated clerodendrum thomsonaie, some more orchids that have started blooming (the yellow ones are less then 1/4"), a swallowtail and some unknown morning glories.

Very cool Karyn. Is the tomato hormworm the same as the little green worms I get that are really tiny? Mine looke more like inch worms.

That clero is downright gorgeous!! I love it! Everything is very pretty.

I have never seen a hornworm in person, I think they are so cool lookin.

I wanna post some pix but PB is being so slow tonight!!

Me too Karyn, me to on the tiny pipe vine. I still want a tiny start of your red passion vine too. I have not seen any of the red ones around here. Your plants are beautiful as all ways and my tiny start of DD died over the winter. (sticking out bottom lip) I guess I'll just be stuck with enjoying looking at all ya'lls via the internet. Oh well if I ever get another J.....O.....B, I might can afford to buy a few plants again. It's the pits being broke all the time. I'm afraid things are going to get alot worse for EVERYONE... On that note, I'm growing alot of things from seed now and enjoy watching them come up. Karyn both yours and Kristy's squash is up and growing and has little squash on them. Kristy your's is taking over the whole top of the hill. some of those runners are at least 20ft long. I think they like where they are planted. LOL I just hope they leave room for the cantalope and watermelons! Ummm just thinking about all the wonderful fresh food out of the garden. I picked a bushel of blackberries last week and got to go pick them again tomorrow. Today I put up strawberries, crook necked squash, peppers, and a few tomatoes. I can't wait to harvest the okra,corn, apples, peaches, and pears. At least we will be eatting good for a while. Happy Gardening, Marian

Napdog Linda, that sux the dog ate them, lol. I am thinking about trying to keep one or two as houseplants over the winter, the rest I will try to over winter in the basement. We'll see, they'kk probably rot..I'm not good at that. Lost all my cannas, dahlias, and hollyhocks that way last winter. Linda in FL, thanks! We're supposed to get more storms today..argh!! Theresa, YES!! those waterlilies are from you!! 3 on the bigger white, and so far only one pink on one of the smaller ones. The lotus just put up its first erect leaf. I wasn't expecting the stem to be prickly! The under water ones aren't. I tried smelling the nicotiana at night..still no fragrance, but now I am thinking that maybe I just can't smell it? My 4 yr old smelled the flowers earlier today and said "o mommy they smell so pretty". SO maybe it's just me? The SPV cuttings you sent me are thriving in the skippy at the pond! Sorry you lost your brug buds too. Sure does suck. Thanks Rigo, that one is the Variegated KMOTGG. I'm going to try and collect seeds from it whn it's ready, I want a whole patch of it next year! I can set some aside for you! The leaves are nice n big..and SO soft! Speaking of seeds..Theresa, I have your columbine seeds around here somewhere..wanted to mail them out last week, things got crazy and now I can't find the darn things!!! I will mail them out as soon as I find them.

Jan I read it here in a post. for a unknown reason if you root something in a green bottle it goes a LOT faster and things get a better root system. I started the orleander in it and everything else. Except for now as long as it is hot no brug cuttings. I do better putting them in earth right away. Hope that helped if not do a search or maybe others know more and can help you. good luck

I still couldn't enlarge the thumbnails and the links failed as well. I get this message with about half of the thumbnails that people post: "The action that you were trying to perform has failed." It might be the computer I'm on. I've never paid attention if it happens with all the computers or just some. There's 4 PC's and a laptop that I use. It just depends on where in the house I am when I go online. The problems started after Photobucket changed the format, then changed back. If it wasn't such an easy image host I'd switch but the others like Picassa are too confusing for me.

I know what you mean our internet went down today at the sight of the first cloud at the shop, lol. Right after I posted it was raining at the shop it went dead for the rest of the day, lol. I love the orchids and the clerodendrums I got excited about the horn worm and forgot to look at the plants, lol. I hope my orchid blooms this year. My morning glory vine finally took off growing about a week ago so hopefully it will bloom soon too.

Kristy you can ID the hornworms by the little spike on their butt, even little ones have it. They get big, about 3". Sometimes you'll see them with little white eggs stuck to their back. You should leave those be. The eggs are from a parasitic wasp that preys on caterpillars, especially hornworms. Shawn the second pic is the clerodendrum (bleeding heart vine). I've had that one for about 3 years. I also have a standard solid green foliage one and another with purple and red blooms that I've had for about 7 years. Some years I cut them back enough to move them inside and allow them to keep growing. Other years I cut them to the soil and let them go dormant in the unheated (but above freezing) greenhouse. They can become monsters in warm climates. I've seen privacy fences in S. FL completely covered. It looks beautiful.

Fantastic photos, I don't post often here usually just a lurker.
I too move my horn worms, we get two types up here in MA. Tomato and tobacco hornworm. Both eventually turn into beautiful hummingbird moths!

Thanks Karyn. My little green worms are something different then. They don't have the horn so I can continue to squish them. I love the hummingbird moths so I won't kill the tomatoe hornworms anymore if I see one I'll give it one of my tomatoe plants.
