I just mowed down Day Dreams.. Hubby (God Love Him) bought me this green lawn tractor..I ask for the one you push.. This is the 3rd or 4th time I have even used it.. YEP and solar light and DD...HOLY MOLY .. Thank Goodness he is out shootng skeet.. Don't Ask Don't Tell..LOL Any one need a cutting???

oh Kylie :-( so sorry. you mean you cut them *CUTTING* size lol. HOpe YOU can save one for yourself! What does the ROOT ...stem? look like?

oh Kylie I am so sorry, that so sounds like something I would do. I didn't dare tell anyone I weed eated my daylilies while they were blooming.

Thought I would update on what is going on now......... I stirred things up and wetted it down a bit more, and after a week, still nothing. So I broke down and did all that made sense to me--- I added more Nitrogen!! I knew that there was a ton of chicken poop in there/grass clippings/kitchen waste--- but also know that is what you add when you are trying to heat up! So I bought a box of EB Stone Compost Maker (first time ever, but thought, what the heck--- it will add stuff that I don't have access to (bat guano!) and other fun stuff). Well I did that 3 days ago--- basically tore the pile down, built it up again, making maybe 8 layers of the compost and the Compost Maker and wetting it down a bit (edges were dry but middle was moist). WaaaLaa....3 days later the compost pile is 100* !! I did take the tarp off, and feel that had something to do with it, too. I have NEVER put a tarp on before, but was reading in several OG books that you should cover the tarp to keep in moisture and heat, and so figured I would try it. That obviously didn't go well for me. So thats where we are for now. All in all, the $5 I spent on the Compost Maker was worth it for me. :)

I'm so glad I read this thread. I am planning my first organic garden, and I thought I would start this fall. Because someone in the past piled dirt on the small front lawn raising the level of the soil about four inches over the level of soil under our pier and beam circa 1916 house, I had thought it would be ok to first pull off dirt from the front yard to partly fill the two new 4' x 8' raised beds I'm constructing of landscape timbers in the back thus killing two yard problems with one wheelbarrow, so to speak. I thought I would compost by adding layers of manure, leaves, lawn clippings, and other "green" stuff, then top with the last bit of soil from the front. I thought I might also add in a little bit of dry molasses with the compost layers, and then in the late fall / early winter finish up by tilling in some Texas green sand. The added soil out front seems to be topsoil, with potting soil and peat in the flowerbed areas. Reading this thread it seems like it might just be doable idea, but if someone knows of reasons this is bad, let me know.

I adore them but would rather have repros costing 0.5% that so I wouldn't have to check myself into the mental hospital with a nervous breakdown if I dinged one! (Not that I could afford those, they're almost half what my freakin' house is worth!) Were I in Dallas I'd snatch up the ones paint_chips posted and use them to learn how to do super-beginner reupholstery with a yummy tapestry fabric. But then I really love that sort of "awful" furniture - I came thisclose to buying a 6-foot-tall, Gothic Revival "throne" chair from a Masonic lodge at a local antiques store. Had it been $50 instead of $500 it would be gracing my living room and you all would be groaning "oh good grief, Mari, what have you DONE?!" LOL Good to know I'm not the only one with the hots for the Keno boys. (I am SUCH a dork.)

Oh No!!!!
I hope she will come back from the roots ok, I cut down daylillies once with the mower.....did`nt tell anyone

BTW Edna I carry a 9 Iron just to wack the shoot where the grass goes into the basket.. I think of you when I do use the green machine...Mary if I can root one honey it is yours!!!

O no Kylie, I am so sorry..Did you realize it as you were doing it? I can just see you riding over it yelling at yourself. I hope you can salvage some. Hopefully she'll come back from the roots for you.

Maybe you need to go to lawn tractor driving school. I'm not a expert but I think you're only suppose to mow the grass. lol

I do hope it will come back from the roots and also hope you were able to savage some of the bits (that sounds rather gruesome doesn't it) and able to root them as well. Hey look into that driving school. jk :)

Kylie, mine are coming back, from the base after they got weedwacked by someone my husband hired to weed our place at the coast, I guess they thought they were tall weeds, these were not in flowerbeds, I had them around building with mulch at the base. They have very small leaves just coming from the base. Very tiny, but I know they will come back. I now have bricks around each plant. The good news is these were not very tall, because of the extreme heat. My growing season is from Oct. to Feb. I hope to see something bloom before the end of the year. Barbra,
