nope, we've been keeping ours outside in our wet danish spring/summer/fall and only in fall it might get a bit brown on the edges but not mushy as if it was rotten

Mine never get mushy as rotten, just ugly...Blotches, brown edges, and so on..I will post a ouple of pics to show what I mean.

I have a feeling some folks here have warmer evenings than us, even this time of year, which might be to your advantage..

Last Saturday, it misted all day, then cleared up, with the temps in the mid low 50's by morning with the leaves still wet.

Cool night temps are favored by Crassula, so that's not the issue.

I have a strong suspicion that your plants are simply not accustomed to the fresh air, real sun and UV. Indoors behind glass, even in full sun, is not the same as being outdoors.

I would allow your plants several weeks to acclimate properly. Early morning sun for a few days, then gradually half a day sun. By the 3rd week, you can try full sun. It may be tough for you to find a spot where you can control the exposure, so you may need to be creative. Try this first with 1 or 2 plants and see how it goes.

I don't have many Jades, but I have them outdoors a summer long and they get plenty of rain, morning dew and humidity.

I don't feel like mine have enjoying being outdoors as much as I had hoped so far this year, but it's been pretty wet so far for me in NE Oklahoma. They aren't doing "bad" by any means, but I definitely think they could be looking better.

I'm hoping ours end up looking similar Mike so we can both find a good solution.

X, they have been outside since May. All my plain green ones do not have this problem..Just the variegated and hummel and on the lighter areas of the leaves..I will take a pic tomorrow, close ups and maybe someone can tell me the diagnosis..Thank you

I have had them in full sun for over a month and a half now..

It just seems the leaves don't like getting wet, unless there is a lot of air movement, and in the past few weeks, a few mornings have been stale, dewy, cool air in the am. I have also had cool drizzly weather for 4 days at once..

I think Josh had this same thing happen to his Jades..I wonder why?

Or maybe, this is is previous damge from when they first went out...Hum

I will have to find out.

My 'Hummel's' is the only Jade affected at the moment.
I thought it was overwatered, and was losing leaves as a result.
I got so sick of it that I re-potted today. ;-)

I've noticed the same problem with the variegated jades, the tri color being the worst although my hummel's sunsets also have this to a lesser extent. It has been more noticeable after our very wet winter in So. CA. Some of my plants are grown under a patio cover (slats/open air/some shielding of the sun) and some out in the open sun and they both get the markings, spots, dark curling edges. I do think this has more to do with the wet or damp leaves not drying quickly rather than a root problem since all of my pots are very well draining.

And no, my non variegated crassula ovatas don't have this problem even though they are in the same environment

Mike it is not your fault it is the locataion of where you live. Is your air carrying heavey high humidity this time of the year, if so that is your problem.? Jades grow on rocky hillsides in SW Africa. They love to be cramped between rocks, it reminds them of home. I have said this over and over through the years, does anyone here pay attention or am I just wasting time? I need to know. Check back through the archives for the past 15 years. There is no magic pill that will cure this. It is a cultural condition which you will need to learn, I know this is not what you want to hear, but I can not sugar this up so the information will go down easier. Norma

I don't grow any of the variegated ones because they just don't grow well for me here. The standards, miniature and the sports all seem to love all the rain (almost daily) we've had lately, but I do keep them very potbound. So I'd guess you might be having the same problems I had when I tried growing the variegates.

variegated plants can be more nitpicky about there care. I can't explain exactly why but I still don't think that moisture is the primary issue.

so here's another theory: since these plants prefer to grow when days are shorter, maybe the variegated bunch are not being cooperative and should be kept on the dry side, away from sun, in a "semi-dormant" state - to be reawakened as the days are shorter late in the summer?

That could very well be, X!
It seems that several of my Jades have gone semi-dormant early this summer.
Last summer it wasn't until July.

X it seems that all plants that are variegated are slower growing and more picky. Including my Sansevieria. I have never had any problems that they speak of, mine are cramped in pots right now and all could use repotting.
They get heavy winter rain when we do get rain, we don't have a gutter on the roof where they are. No problems, no spots, they drop leaves which is normal, and I clean them out of the pots, no big deal. I don't fertilize, I do water once a week during the summer months, but not much get into the pots. My temperatures range starting this week from 80+ all summer long until well into October-Nov.

Norma, I will greatly take your words into consideration and rethink about keeping them outside since I do get lots of humidity, cool dewy nights..I even caught a slug crawling on a leaf..Gross....

I haven't had issues with the ones I have, hummels, gollums, variegated, compacta, 'regular.'

but...the variegated and hummel are under the eave of my roof so they don't get rained on as often.

the rest get pulled in under the roof if they've had a good soak and more rain's on the way.

I just had a look at the 'Hummel's Sunset' cutting that Norma sent to Newnie this week.
That cutting exhibits the same leaf-discoloration that Mike and myself and several others have mentioned.
