Pls. not these are NOT Jade plants, given the name you've provided.

Generally, we suggest that pots for succulents are just 1-2" (maximum 2") in diameter larger than the rootball. My sense is a WIDE, SHALLOW pot will not be good for this, may hold too much soil which may bring back too wet close to rot issues.

No, pls. don't cover the drainage holes, that's what they're there for, to drain. I'm sorry, I DO see you plan to hang the plant. Pots for hanging plants usually have a saucer for this purpose. I suggest you attach a saucer to whatever hanging set up you will use.

FYI, I use rounds of newspapers several layers thick to line the inside of my pots & while water comes out the bottom when I water, soil does not.

I'd wait 4 days to a week, when they're really DRY. When you pot it up DON'T WATER IT IN. Pls. wait a week to water, to let the plant/roots heal.

Oops, sorry about calling it a jade. I thought it was also known as a weeping/trailing jade?
I found the roots to be short and pretty small after brushing off all the old soil and separating them out. I have a less shallow pot that's a bit smaller in diameter but not as small as it sounds like you're suggesting. I was also going to create some cuttings to create 8 plants.
Argh. I really don't want to go all the way out to the store to return these pots. :(
And I'll give them a few days to make sure they're dry. I certainly won't water them anytime soon!

It's true, one common name is "weeping/trailing jade" but, confusingly, it's from a different family than the usual jade plant. Senecio jacobsenii is in the daisy & aster family, whereas Crassula arborescens "Jade Plant" is in the orpine & stonecrop family.

No worries, and no apology necessary... it's just that folks giving advice want to know what plant it really is, so they understand your situation correctly. Botanical and horticultural (Latin) names work better than the -- sometimes ambiguous -- common names.

That's really interesting, dcelzinga. I'm going to snap a picture. Can I post it here for ID'ing? I'm thinking it might be a true jade plant and not a Senecio jacobsenii.

Well I'm not DC, but sure you can post it here for ID.

I wasn't trying to bust your chops on the name, it's just that different plants take different care & the common names can add confusion btwn plant families. They can also vary regionally, so we're just trying to be as sure as possible what it really is (as DC explained above).

I re-potted my Jade plants in gritty mix today morning. I washes my plants to remove the old soil. But I didn't dry them. Should I leave them as it is or should I take out the plant from gritty mix to dry them. I didn't water them after re potting. The gritty mix i made was wet and I followed Al's gritty mix recipe.
