Natural Disasters and The Garden

Here in BKF, two interesting things are going on, 1) the Zaca fire in Santa Barbara County taints our skies with smoke and turns daylight into an eerie orange light and 2) the state is spraying some stuff to kill mosquitos in an effort to curb an outbreak of West Nile Virus.

Oddly, more of my plants have leaves turning brown lately than they did in 3 digit temps. Temps have been in the 90s lately. Could it be that the stuff falling from the sky and the scattered sunlight is having an effect?

BTW: There is a total lunar eclipse going to occur on August 25th and coincidentally, there have already been 7 major earthquakes around the Pacific rim.

08/02 6.7 Andreanof Islands, AK

08/08 7.5 Java, Indonesia

08/09 4.6 Los Angeles, CA

08/14 5.4 Big Island, HI

08/15 6.5 Andreanof Islands, AK

08/15 8.0 Peru

08/16 6.7 Solomon Islands

The 4.6 in LA is likely not major, but I tossed it in to show that activity is up in CA too. There have been a couple 4.0 or greater within the past 30 days in CA.

Watch your dogs and cats for odd behavior folks.
