Wow! I had no idea we had so many younger people here! I guess I'm just not used to my peers liking plants as much as I do. Anytime I start talking about C&S, or chaparral and natives vs. exotic invasives, they start looking at me all funny. Although, I have had a few moments of vindication - when I go on hikes with folks from my old department and I'm able to talk about the specific plants and vegetation we're hiking through. :) Likewise, when I'm in a BBS and I start talking with folks about the C&S I'm buying. Mike: I agree, spread the love amongst the young-uns! Keep the faith alive! That's pretty cool that you bring C&S to the kids. They are truly fascinating plants, and I can just envision the imaginations they'll capture. :) Remind me again where your neck of the woods is? Josh: I, too, am not the least bit "Asian" (Greek & Lebanese on one side, English/Irish/French/German on the other), but I spent a year working in an "Asian" grocery store, where the majority of customers and employees were Chinese, Vietnamese, and...well, Mexican, which isn't Asian, either, but anyway. Not too many Japanese or Koreans - they had their own stores. I'd have to agree with you, though, Korean is a beautiful language. I enjoy Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese (food as well as languages). :) *CG*

pssst, Lowes in the Houston area all just got new shipments of cactus\succulents and there are a ton of these in there. As a matter of fact, they must have shipped to everyone because Walmart and Home Depot were both unwrapping the same cactus this past week. I was kind of surprised to see all the varieties of jades they had. You know I had to dig through all the boxes and picked up an euphorbia I didn`t have along with some nice little plants for a cactus dish garden. I myself do not grow them (jades), they do not like the humidity of the island nor our monsoon rains. There is a nursery up the road that has some enormous green jades that are in full bloom right now. They keep them in a very dry, very hot greenhouse and I think water them once a year. Don`t have a hot dry greenhouse either. I`ve mailed plenty of ball moss,Tillandsia recurvata, to Canada, as a craft item of course,not to grow or anything. That`s my story and I`m sticking to it. Hi Val, I am so glad you gave Lorraine a shot. Isn't her plants great? She emailed me pics of diffrent blooming cacti she has right now and I am debating on buying one of them but I am not sure if I want something else yet. I looked at the one you bought for a while but I decided to get mine because it was more full. I also asked her if she had a picture of the jade she sent to me so she could check it out and tell me if it had that weeping form when she had it and she said yes. She also told me that I would probobly end up having to prune it to get it to produce growth that wouldn't weep. I did accidently break off a large branch by trying to tie it to a stake so it could straghten for me. Well, now I have a cutting that is about 8 inches long and I have laid it down on the turface to see if it will root. What size was the pot yours came in? What did you think of her prices? I thought they were VERY fair. I had to laugh when she sent it to me she packed it in a box that had a beer logo on it and the post office told her that she would have to repackage it because it wouldn't get to me. LOL..Poor Lorraine must have been so frustrated. She told the postal worker that the jade weighed less than a can of beer. I couldn't believe that and it made me nervous thinking she sent the wrong jade but when I got it, it was surprisingly light. How tall is your tree? Andrew
