The Lithops you probably know, don't water until spring. The others are all nominally winter growers. Argyroderma I might not have quite figured out yet. They don't do a lot in summer and of course they don't do anything at all in my winter. Somewhere in between they look like they are trying to grow but never seem to get very far. Anyway, maximum sunlight and very little water at all times. They are very prone to split if you overwater. Aloinopsis won't grow in summer, even here. They will try to grow the rest of the time but probably won't do much right in the middle of winter. A little more water than the Argyroderma. Maximum sun again, especially in winter. Seem to be quite forgiving. Titanopsis are so much fun, they all seem to prefer different conditions but they are quite adaptable. All the species are usually described as winter growers but all can be treated as summer/autumn growers in England. I don't have this ex-species, which has now been lumped with T. schwantesii although it has a somewhat different appearance and a completely different distribution in the wild. The name tells you it comes from Luderitz just like Fenestraria. Try treating it like Fenestraria and it should do well, maybe a little more water. It is also quite tolerant, overwatering tends to kill off the outer leaves rather than cause any serious damage.

Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum! 1. Almost all commercial 'cactus &succulent' soil contains large amounts of peat. It is far too water retentive for most succulents. Use about 75% inorganic materials with particle sizes from 1/8 to 3/8 inch like perlite, pumice, gravel, etc. Use 25% or less of the store cactus and succulent mix as you organic component. This will allow for proper water drainage. Don't use sand, it compacts and blocks drainage. Succulents will not tolerate more than a couple of days with wet feet. Allow the mix to become completely dry before watering. 2. Only you can determine how often to water. It depends on too many local variables (heat, humidity, soil mix, your plants, when it last rained, etc.) for anyone to recommend any particular schedule for watering. Don't let any succulent sit with wet roots for more than 2-3 days. 3. Your cereal bowls with a hole drilled would be fine containers, but may be too large for small plants. Co-planting may be helpful, but make sure the plants have similar cultural requirements. 4. The prime directive for succulent growing is: If in doubt, Don't! This applies to everything. Don't water unless you are sure the pot is dry top to bottom. Don't trim unless you are sure the plants needs it. Don't repot unless it is necessary, etc. 5. The directive above derives from the ideal cultural practice called Benign Neglect. Don't take any action unless you are certain it is necessary. Succulents want to be left alone. Fussing over them is a sure way to kill them. 6. Every plant has it's own cultural requirements. It is important to know what you have so that you can give them proper care. So, the next step is to post some photos of your new plants so that we can identify them, and give you proper care advise. Succulents are much easier to care for than geraniums. Barb...both happy and sad....Happy he is moving forward with his life. Knowing he will go far as long as he stays focused on his studies, and learns to quit being so wasteful. Sad because he is moving on and we will be seeing very little of him in the next 4 years or so. We havent made any new life adventures yet. House needs some TLC. I suppose first we will get used to having a home with just us and the critters and go from there. Chell I used to be a dog and cat groomer. I loved it too. But my employer was a deedeedee. Never had the money to pay me each week and always "owed" me. And she never gave me my tips either.Then at the end of the year she reported more earnings for me than what I had really made.Fortunitly I kept records and proved my case and won, so make sure you don't let the same happen to you. I have kept my clippers, blades and accessories and still will do a neighbors dog or two once in awhile to keep my skills up.....but don't miss the hair stuck in places I did'nt know existed....lol.
