What to do with Manzanita seeds?

I harvested some seeds from several unknown (to me) manzanita plants growing in a private garden near Tehachapi. The fruits were already drying and some were completely dried out. I've had the seeds laying on a counter indoors for a couple of weeks now to allow the rest of the fruits to dry out. My question is whether I should sow them now, or sow them in the fall outdoors so that they could be subject to our winter temps and thus simulate a more natural environment. Also, what medium should I sow them in? Thanks for any advise! I love Manzanitas and would like to add them to my informal xeric garden. They would add a native touch to the many succulents I already have.
