San Diego nursery
Comments (4)Bonita Creek Nursery in Bonita (Dave is a CRFG member and has a very broad selection, lots of unusual varieties, but call first so he's there. Worth going to), Clausen's Nursery in Vista, down the street from Exotica. Best citrus trees in N. San Diego county period, tell Ray Patty Sliney sent you. Ganter Nursery on the corner of Vista Way and Gopher Canyon, very lovely people, lots and fruit trees all the time. Walter Andersen Nursery in Poway and also in San Diego (on Enterprise), good selection of fruit trees, especially during bare root season. One of the few nurseries left in San Diego county the heels them in with wet shavings and charges a reasonable amount for true bare root trees :-) And Evergreen also has a nursery in Oceanside as well, if you're up more in N. county. Comments (8)Well, down in San Diego, there is a show and sale going on in Balboa Park that weekend. Pretty sure there will be some tillandsias on sale there as well as other broms (and probably a lot cheaper than anywhere else). With regards to tillandsias, I'll check who all is selling stuff, some people have a great selection at some sales. A lot of nurseries have at least some selection. Are you looking specific specimen plants, bulk, or just a range of selection? Everywhere from the box stores, Walter Anderson, Armstrong's, Exotic Gardens, and a bunch more. But most seem to have the same suppliers for the air plants so they tend to be the smaller/younger ones and somewhat the same selection. I'm not sure when Bird Rock is open and there is supposed to be something with cool random selection up around Rancho Santa Fe area (I think). I know I'm forgetting others, does anyone else in the area have other suggestions (and for me too)? Gonzer might have some suggestions for North County. -andy...See MoreBest place to find Australian plants in San Diego Area
Comments (1)You should be able to find them at most nurseries. The big box stores typically carry a selection of Australian plants (Grevillea Noelli, Grevillea Red Hooks, Callistemon "Little John," Callistemon citrinus, Eremophila... etc) If you want a wider and more specific selection, you'll have to find a specialty nursery, which I'm sure there are plenty of in the area. I live in Northern California and we have a large selection of Hakeas, Grevilleas, Corymbia, Eucalyptus, Doryanthes and many, many more at select nurseries. Southern California will have even more availability I'm sure. I know Australian Native Nursery in Ventura specializes in Australian plants but it is too far away for you unless you'll have an entire day to spare. Good luck! Welcome to the Golden State!...See MoreNursery sSources for Michelia and jasmines in San Diego
Comments (2)Kandhi, in the Michelia FAQs, there are three good nurseries listed at the bottom. They are Walter Andersen's, Pacific Tree Farms, and Mission Hills Nursery. The only nursery down there that I know carries both Jasmines and Michelias is Aloha Tropicals. They are mainly mail-order and visit by appointment only. I can't vouch for the quality of their plants there, but they do have a good variety of fragrant plants however. I also did a little searching and Ong Nursery seems to have Michelias and other rare flowering plants. You might want to give them a call though since the website was last updated in 2002. Ong's Nursery You could also check out Walmart there for the Maid of Orleans variety (some do carry it), should be around $5 or $6 for a one gallon....See Morecatkim
