Thanks you guys. That M. crystallinum is endemic to Santa Cruz Island which is only about 15 miles from here so, Rian, I guess the tables are turned, huh? The ground where it grows is hard compacted dirt like you've described with the Fenestraria.
Yeah, I've been getting better about fertilizing. The seedlings and small Mesembs get a weak solution with distilled water and everything else in the greenhouse or growing shelves gets full solution with tap water. I just got myself a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. Guess how much 4 gallons weighs... a lot! It's nice though, very precise.
The in-ground stuff and other outside planter/pot stuff mostly gets the hose until I can get around to the more arduous task of hand fertilizing the property, maybe once every 6 weeks.

It's time to start separating seedlings soon. I've already done some Glottis, Aloes and Anacampseros but there's a hoard waiting for me, lots of pods ripening too. I'm feeling really good about my soil mixing now, feel like I have a good balance.

Wow, Rian! I'm blown away, those babies look great! You've got a terrific variety there. I hope MY Mitrophyllums look like that in another 8 months! I really like all the quartz accents, very authentic. I imagine that's a common mineral for you.

Thanks...I feel less yellow now...LOL! I am in front of you with the seedling transplant! Ordered 2000 "square pots" a month ago. Love square pots, less wasted space. But I tell you transplanting takes time, I take a specie or 2 a day...

Rian, I can't help but giggle when I think of my ONE pot, with ONE plant, of Deilanthe peersii, when I see your several pots, with several plants of the same. A testament to your skill and my good luck! I will get there one day though!

Hanz, your photos are terrific! I loved seeing them all and your comments are interesting. The one showing the babies 1.5 to 4 weeks made me less grumpy that my little ones stay so small for so long. Do you sell your new plants? You have so many!

I was glad to see the field of Haworthia as I wondered how they looked when not in pots and what their natural growth habit was. I did not expect to see them grow so closely together. Do you have to thin them out time to time?

Now, that Mesembryanthemum crystallinum is something I've never seen before. It looks like a bunch of little water filled bumps or empty shells. That can't be. You can practically see right through them. Is this a common plant? What are those little bumps? It's making me crazy!

Penny, much thanks! Just to let you know, the photos above in thumbnails are from Rian's collection. He's some years ahead of me in this effort.

Most of my babies (Mesembs, Aloes, Agave, Anacampseros, Avonia, Haworthia, Gasteria are not ready for sale yet, maybe next summer. I've also been propagating from leaves for a few years and have narrowed that down to the more select, less available plants. I've been preparing lots of those for local sale, just to get the ball rolling. Much of what I'm doing is practice and education, preparation for my future plans which I probably shouldn't discuss in this venue.

The "Sea of Haworthia" is actually a shipment I received, planted very close together in a shallow tray. I did this only because I hadn't received my plastic pots yet. They plumped up a bit after planting but have only been that way for about 4 months. I'm sure they'll let me know when they want out!

The M. crystallinum is one of my favorites.Those droplets are actually water cells that will break if touched. The flower buds have fat cells while the leaves have tiny ones. I got the seeds on Santa Cruz Island last Summer. They grew faster than any other Mesemb I planted. I'll post a link below to my thread from last summer about our island adventure.

Titanopsis I have never dabbled in, but the texture and color is just something else. I have got to try one day. They're fantastically unusual. The springtime colors take the cake for me.
