Please help me narrow this down

I have read through several pages of posts, learning lots, wanting more (both information & plants). Although I eventually will read it all, I am searching for photos which will help me identify the problem with my first & so far, only brug (Charles Grimaldi). I say only, but actually I have two plants--the original, and a new plant which was the main stem broken off cleanly in a windstorm when the step ladder fell onto it! I don't know how much time I have to doctor the plant before it's too late. I seem to have the same problem with a cucumber vine in a nearby pot. Please help me narrow my search by directing me to the appropriate post or link. Thanks in advance! Marcia

Marcia I am not really reading THE PROBLEM you are having besides the broken off stem. Are you asking what to do with it to make a plant out of it?

Maybe you can even post a picture?!!!

Thank you, Lucy, for responding so quickly! I have rooted & successfully planted the broken stem & it is growing vigorously. The problem is yellow spots (if they ARE spots) on the original plant. I hesitate to call them spots because they are miniscule, only visible with a magnifying glass. Not blotchy at all, but more like fading all over. The nearby ES hydrangeas are somewhat blotchy. No critters that I have seen. I have fertilized religiously, although not with epsom salts since I just read about that, this PM. The seller treated with a systemic insecticide/miticide, but I have not re-applied. FWIW, here in NE Oklahoma it has recently been very hot, but I have watered at least once/day so the plant has not wilted. It is protected from all but morning sun. I really need a site which will identify problems with photos, if there is such a site. I have never posted photos, but maybe it is time to jump into it with both feet!!

Wow that is quite a list! About all any of us can do is tell you which ones we would pick. And, other than taste you have some other limitations to work with in your info that will eliminate several of them. 6 in pots - how big are the pots? If 7-10 gallons at least then 4th of July, Stupice, Bush Beefsteak, Fir Tree, Early Wonder, and one of the Jelly Beans 5 In ground with some really good tomato cages (not the 3 ring things - Big Beef, Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Sungold, Sweet Million Hanging baskets - Tumbler and Tiny Tim are the only ones on the list that will work in those. Not that I would grow all these choices personally but I'm just using your list to go by. And you don't indicate location of any kind or garden zone so that would make a big difference in choices too. Don't waste your time on - Yellow Pear, Ace, Red Zebra, or Chocolate Stripes IMO. Totally agree with Hvtech42 about the built-in heater. That's because by the time your water travels from your hot water heater to your washing machine, it has cooled so that it is not hot enough to get your clothes really clean. And even if your washing machine is right next to your hot water heater, usually hot water heaters aren't set at a temperature hot enough to wash clothes really clean. My 10 cents worth: -it must clean clothes (stating the obvious) -absolutely can't leak (we value our house) -must stay in one place when run (again - we value our house) -reliable (you press go - it goes) -durable (they are expensive, you don't want to have to buy one every 3-4 years) -must be a reasonable cost for the projected life expectancy (I require 12-20 yrs) -cycles must be quick (laundry at my house never ends) -must deal with out of balance loads (I wash lots of rugs, shoes, etc) -must offer at least a normal and delicate cycle (wife relates to concept of delicate) -must be energy efficient (money doesn't grow on trees last I checked) -should spin out at least to 300G (I pay for the drying) -has to be simple to operate (no rocket scientists in our house) -must be easy to load and unload (I'm not getting any younger) -must be reasonably quiet (mine is on the first floor, but I can shut a door) -must be offered in materials and colors that are timeless (1970s orange, green,...nasty) -exterior must be easy to keep clean (detergent compartment in particular) -exterior appearance should withstand 20 years of use (and interior for that matter) -should be easy to install and later remove (I do my own appliance installs) -parts must be available when needed (again laundry at my house never ends) -qualified service personnel must be available (doesn't do wash when it won't run) -must come from a company on firm financial ground (see parts and service notes above) -must come from a customer focused company (decisions based on customer needs, not company needs) Things that may have some value to the right person (based on quite a few posters here): -adjustable end-of-cycle signal, at least one loud enough to hear 30 feet away -electric heater - for the times the $&@# hits the fan and you need to nuke the germs -nice styling (ours is in a back room that nobody sees when visiting) -pretty colors (although I would rate stainless steel more timeless) -steam functionality (not sure how this works - see electric heater) -built in detergent/softener/bleach storage and dispensing Always a tough decision since you need to live with it for years unlike the purchase of a vacation. Like picture-in-pictures hocked as a gotta have on TVs 10-15 years ago, do you really need all the bells and whistles touted by the sales guys on the floor? It's just laundry at the end of the day, and we would all prefer to be doing something different if given the choice. laundryvet

jump in...jump in ..we not only love pictures but in cases were we need to identify what is wrong with a plant...pictures do speak a thousand words!

I hope someone else comes and gives you suggestions what it could be and how you can treat it. Since I only use water.

Spidermites!!!! Look for them on the underneath of the leaves.They suck fluids out of the leaves and cause them to yellow. But I may be a little biased, ask the group, I always blame the spidermites. I hate THEM!

Welcome from another transplanted Okie!!! I never thought I would live here and now I would not want to leave. We love it here in Tulsa. I have been here 22 years so I guess I am practically a native!!!?? I just started growing brugs myself so I am still in the learning mode. bri_fl After you mentioned spidermites, I searched & the damage done to the leaves in photos looked like my leaves. Close enough for me to spray! I cannot see any critters of any kind, even underneath the leaves, no webs. A little lightbulb came on and I remembered that the seller had sprayed for SM when I purchased. Should have remembered. Thanks for the 'heads up'.
Joyce We live @ Grove but visit daughter & family in Tulsa quite often. I like it there, too. Is there someone in Tulsa who sells brugs? I was so impressed how easy it was to root the 'stepladder casualty', that I'm afraid this could become habit forming.(Like I need another habit to support!)Marcia

I am not aware of anyone who sells brugs in Tulsa. Mine came from Ebay, WOB (Eddie) and I have received cuttings from some very generous people here on this list. I have a Peach Versicolor that I planted in the ground this year that is growing like crazy. If you would like a cutting from that I can send it to you now. Versicolor is the brug in the center of the photo below. I should have more cuttings in the Fall. Brugs are very addicting and I can't wait to get my first bloom!
