Magnolia grandiflora with December bud

Some M. grandiflora specimens in Victoria flower in late fall or winter. (Full winter offers less buds but you may find some.) This is an amazing evergreen tree that offers year-round interest in Nanaimo, Victoria and Vancouver, BC. Every winter since moving from the cold winters of Ontario to this mild area, I find surprises no matter what day of fall or winter it may be. The city of Victoria should plant more of these instead of the copy-and-paste prunus and tulip trees. Prunus is fine but it only offers spring interest way before tourists really show up.
