I didn't do any winter sowing this year but your flowers are beautiful. What is the orange colored flower and is a perennial? I just love that one.

We have had heavy rain everyday since last week, as a tropicalstrom named 'Chang San' which hit Philippines Veitnam, Laos last week, past our country Thailand. Fortunately, it clam down to be a depression. But you know, all my xeric broms, particularly Orthophytum, seem to be very happy. They do love a lot of water! My dear HDD, in a way of our Buddhism, 'Spiny' can teach us to be concentrated when we do anythings, I mean like we do a meditation...Ouuuch...dam Hechtia !!! Oh Patris, I sure you will love those choices, O.'Brittle Star' is something amazing also 'Star Dust', I would recommend a rare one in Michael list if he has, O. supthutii, as my friend in German told me that this recently discovered species would be a relative of Burle-marxii group. On left : O. 'Star Dust', Top : O. fosterianum, Right : a cutest O. 'Brittle Star' and Bottom : O. supthutii Ortho. benzingii, one of the most curious terrestrial brom, as its stick-like stem. This was my plant from Michael two month ago, it is going to bloom now. There is a nice pic in FCBS, Pls see the link at the bottom. Hey Catkim, glad to meet you here! Actually, that pebble is top dressing pumice. My growing medium for most of my xeric broms compised of : Two parts Perlite, Two parts small size 0.3-0.5 cm Pumice, One part loamy soil with leaf mould. Out of all the responses, I think about 5 of you don't mind, like or have husbands who like toe cleavage. So I find out finally that I am not alone in disliking it, yay! lol I don't really care what other people wear, I'm only concerned about my shoes. Mush- those pointy red boot/clogs were too pricey for me, like $300, and like I said- they just looked freakishly long on my foot, even with the open back. How come they look cute on others but not on me? My friend Iku had just gotten a pair as a gift from her DH and they looked adorable on her. Of course, she's way tiny and wears probably a size 5. Gosh, Ron- sorry to lure you in here with high hopes! I hope you got over your disappointment. Do YOU like toe cleavage? On women, I mean? lol

Well....let's see.I have a laundry basket under the counter in DS and DGD's bathroom,then there's the floor in front of the washer in the laundry room and the garden tub in my bathroom,which I have never used in the 9 years I have owned this house.The tub is for DH's and my laundry only and I do only our laundry.When there's enough for a load I do it so I only do a couple of loads every couple of days.DGD and DS do their own.My kids were all doing their own laundry by the time they were 12.I have several rubbermaid hampers but they seem to collect out of season stuff and even bags of dog food!LOL For some reason the dirty clothes never seemed to make it to the inside of the hamper. Ninos-One reason I started making my kids do their own laundry was because I couldn't get them to turn their socks (especially the boys) right side out! Told them if they couldn't turn their clothes right side out before putting them in the laundry room,they could start doing their own,and they did!LOL For some reason trying to turn stinky, stiff as a board socks right side out just doesn't set well with me!It was time they learned to do laundry anyway.LOL

RaeAnna, I will for sure! That arbor has been in the works for so long that if I actually ever get it completed you’d better believe I will be insufferably showing it off. Lilyfinch, thank you! Earth Angel wants to be much bigger than that spot allows, but she’s worth wrangling for those blooms and repeats really well for me there, which keeps that area interesting when Eden is resting. You should definitely get another! I have two, one on either side of that arbor entrance and it’s all of my littles’ favorite rose. They are always wanting to run out there and smell it. There’s so much info out there on the internet nowadays that I feel pretty confident attempting to build most anything. I did the entire fence by myself and even learned how to do concrete and stone mosaics online so I could lay the path. But there’s something about this arbor that’s really intimidating me. I want it to be an arch that mirrors the architecture of the front of the house, and I can’t settle on what method I’m going to use. I tend to obsessively plan to a fault and that’s part of the problem. I need to just bite the bullet and get started and whatever happens, happens! I’d love to see your birdhouse! There’s nothing like the pride you feel when you’ve done it yourself. Vapor, thank you so much! Please copy the combo, I’d love to see what you do with it! And thank you for the compliments, the house exterior and garden has been in the works for a long time, so comments like “utter charm” just thrill me to the bone in a way I can’t adequately articulate. It’s been so much work over years and so frustrating at points, and of course I doubt my choices sometimes like we all do and worry it’s all “too weird” for a front yard in a land of lawns, so positive feedback means a lot to me.

Thanks Val, the orange flowers are called Cheiranthus cheiri. They are not perennials, but rather biennial.

The trick to getting wallflowers to grow as perennials instead of hardy biennials is to stop them going to seed in the second year. Remove seed heads and shear back for a bushy plant, which will bloom again.

I'm going to leave a few go to seed so that I can collect them just incase they don't make it.

The Evening Scented Stocks you can barely see were winter sown and I don't remember if these nastursiums were or not. I think they were. Not blooming yet, but they sure like that container, the leaves are getting nice and big.

Everyone's flowers are beautiful! SHARON!!! YOU ARE A ZONE 2!! I CANNOT BELIEVE YOUR GARDEN!!! That should be illegal. I am zone 5/6 and don't have anything close to that. I'd love to see a couple of pictures providing an overview of your gardens... pretty please!!

Toots, I'm like you, I just love old antique stuff in the garden. In my tin watering can I have Brachycome growing in it.

Well, thank you Lisa. Yes I do garden in zone 2b, our winters can be very harsh and our summers very hot like it is today!

I said I was going to cut down on wintersowing for next year. Geez, that has changed, I've already got a mile list of seeds I want to try next year. This madness never ends, I tell yah! ;)

Lovely morning glories. I eventually got the Heavenly Blue to bloom on my front light post. I always considered MG's to be sort-of wild ordinary flowers, so I can't believe I am so blown away by these flowers - they are just beautiful. BTW I am getting my WS photos together but will start a new post - this one takes too long for my computer to post.

Gorgeous flowers everyone. Sharon, are those a special type of Lupine? The catalogue's say they were only hardy to zone 4 so thought they wouldn't grow in Manitoba.

We just started our garden last spring, so this spring will be one full year...still a newbie! (your entire garden is amazing..I'm in southern ontario too, I'm so jealous just droolin here!)
