The difficulty with explaining this is if I put down the html code as it needs to be written, the website interprets it as a photo and it disappears as text. That said, here's the steps:

1) The photos have to be hosted on a server, like Photobucket or Flikr, not on your computer's harddrive;

2) right click on the photo, left click on properties;

3) where it says "address (url)", highlight the entire url using the left mouse button and choose "copy";

4)paste the url into the following html code: img src=""

For my Yosemite example, img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2344/2510624322_5ca6e1d9ba.jpg?v=0";

5) The "lesser than" and "greater than" symbols go on each end (this is where the problem occurs - if I write it out, you just see the picture, not text).

Open a Photobucket account. Follow instructions for uploading.
When your photos are uploaded there will be 4 lines under each picture. Copy the 'HTML' tag (2nd from bottom) and paste it directly into your post.

gonzer: I've tried doing this from Photobucket and I still only get a link not a photo like the one above from dicot. I thought maybe it was because I have a Mac.

Westelle, I think you're right about that. I tried helping a lady over on the Ponds forum who was having a similar problem with her Mac. Unfortunately, when I tried to post helpful links, GW security jumped in and wouldn't let me post links to helpful websites. I'm pretty sure it was the J a v a reference that caused it.

The photos I've been posting (look at the "Salvia xxx from California" threads in the Salvia Forum) are all from Photobucket, using the html code.

I wouldn't think it would matter if it's a pc or a mac (or if you are running windows, ubuntu or linux), because the relationship is from the server where the photo is hosted and GWweb's server, using html language that is universally recognized by the internet.

Using the img src code, I can also capture images from other website (called "hotliking"), it that other site allows such linking. Using CCroulet's salvia example, I often use the url from Robin's salvias because he has excellent quality photos.

Animation can be linked using the same code.

Looooong time Mac user here. To post a pic from PB just click on the HTML code link. It will automatically "copy" it (you'll see a yellow "copied" when you click on it). Then come to the body of your post and click "paste". You will see a line of code in your message. Then when you click on preview message you will see the pic. Click on submit message and you'll see your pic, like this:

Far from an expert, but try clickables. I work with two windows: one with GW and the other with photobucket.com. To load up photos from your computer on to photobucket.com, see where it says "Upload Images & Video" then choose files to the right of that. In this case it would be "from: my computer." Click "Choose files" and it should take you to photos you've saved on your computer. Then click on the photo you want to load up to photobucket. Click "Open" and it will load up. You can edit or do other stuff, but I just click on "Skip this step now" listed on the left side over the photo. Now your photo is in your album in photobucket.

To load up to GW, click on the box right under the photo (you are still on photobucket.com), then scroll down to the bottom of the page where there are these blue boxes (on mine anyway) and select/click the last one "Generate HTML and IMG code." Then, copy the first one (HTML clickable thumbnails ...) and go to your GardenWeb screen to the "Message" box where you want to post your picture, and paste that info in the box. I can't use the brackets here to show you, but they surround the word "center" at the beginning of the HTML coding and at end. By deleting the words "center," this will flush your photo to the left instead of leaving it in the middle. Examples:

If you want to add wording to your photo, you can experiment where you want it, e.g., I added Hibiscus flower to the beginning of the HTML code. You would follow the same procedure to add more than one picture (know one can do multiple selection of pictures, but I haven't tried that yet). Also know that you can always use the "Preview Message" here on GW and if you don't like the picture selection or you want to add wording, as long as you don't click on the "Submit Messagge" button, you can always edit. Hope this helps, if not ask and maybe I can explain better.

Please don't respond to these threads as we like to keep them on the top so they're always easy to find. We love pics on that forum so we decided to keep instructions handy for all who need them.

And post more pics! This is California where just about everything grows but this forum is sadly lacking in photo inspiration. I for one would love to see some pics of all the native/drought tolerant gardens I read about. I always enjoy Wanda's pics but I'm sure there has to be more of you with these lovely gardens. C'mon, show them off! : )
