Thanks for all the I.D.'s and advice everyone! I can finally do some research and start treating these plants as needed! The aloe is pretty close looking to A. maculata, I'll definitely look in to this, either way it's a great looking aloe! wantonamara- My grandma said the same thing happened to her. She had an unexpectedly cold winter and all the aloe died, eventually coming back the next summer. Two years later I would have never known, they grew back so quickly and there's so many of them. As for the adenia, it's more than likely just going dormant as everyone has stated. For some reason dormancy escaped my mind. I guess I was just worried that I had done something wrong. Thanks for the tip robinpla! I want to grow the fattest caudex possible but I'm new to the whole caudiciform scene and don't know a whole lot about fattening them up. Any other advice on plumping my adenia up? I also have a fockea edulis if anyone has any advice for fattening those up as well. The only thing I read about fattening fockea was to bury the caudex and don't prune it. Thanks for everyone's help!

Wow I do believe you are correct. Though I searched I always seemed to find shrubs or trees that looked close but not quite. The property I am working on is very old mined property from back in the 1960s. It has left to self sow though I do believe that some trees were planted to fix the nitrogen in the soils after phosphate mining. There is such a variety of wildlife on the property and I am trying my best to maximize the plantings and removal of some exotics to produce the best concentration of bird and butterfly plantings within the 140+ acres. Thanks, oldned. I'll have to get a close look at the seeds. Well, if it's the gray nickerbean that would explain why I see so many more hairstreaks around here this year. I still think it's obnoxious, and it's never been around here before in the 14 years I've lived here. There are many plants, like castor bean, virginia creeper, and poison ivy, that have appeared in the preserve area since they started digging and sodding, Glad to know that this one is a native, at least.

I’m so glad you wrote about your mislabeled roses. I myself bought a ”Martha’s Pride” a few years back and it’s my best performing rose. You say it’s a “Peter Mayle”? Mine has grown to about 6ft and sends up shoots that grow to about 3/4” diameter by the end of the season. It puts out 12-18 roses at a time when in full bloom. Pictured: the center and right vases are full of blooms from a single “Martha’s pride’ plant, about 3yrs old. The left vase is flowers from two ’Love’ bushes, each 2yrs old. You hopefully can see why I see this rose as such a great performer?
