Your poor daughter must be traumatized. I haven't seen sea monkeys since I was little. I had looked for some to get my daughter a few years ago and couldn't find them. I had a hamster eat her babies when I was a little girl and I really wanted to murder that little rat. I never liked her after that and my mother ended up giving her away so watch out. DD may hold a grudge, lol.

lol, evil lil canabalistic critters. She was really upset and mad, but I'm glad and I am sure she is too, that she didn't witness it. That would have been bad. The only thing she is happy about is the fact that now the mouse isn't pregnant anymore, she will let DD hold her again.

Ya know what's funny about the sea monkeys is that the 4yr old heard me call them brine shrimp..her eyes lit up and she said "mmmm when can I eat them" lol.
I'm sure DH will be getting more of those critters to replace the dead ones. DD wanted to dump the dead ones in my pond! I told her to water my plants with them.

Ewwww! At least Mommy has had her protein fix for a while. I'm surprised that she ate all of them. That's a big meal. I used to order Sea Monkey's all the time when I was little. Back then I didn't know that they were brine shrimp. Much later on I had to breed a constant supply of brine shrimp as food for my seahorses. Not a pet I recommend. They are the most difficult salt water fish to keep in captivity but they are way cool.

Daniella, I assume your DD has recovered from the lose of the baby mice since she is now able to hold her pet mouse. I sure would have hated to see that, yuck! Anyway, I still hold dear the story of your DD having a baby shower, too funny! You should submit that story to a newspaper column or even the Reader's Digest.

Karyn, I agree. I can't believe she ate them all by herself, she does have another female in there with her..maybe she ate some too? I had to explain to DD that the babies were prob born dead and that's why she ate them..I think she was worried they were eaten alive. Kinda weird seeing that mouse all skinny again after she was SOOO fat. DD got a kick out of being able to see the babies move in the mother's belly.
I always wanted seahorses, but I never wanted to attempt a saltwater tank. That's cool you had them.

Baby shower..that girl is too much. We finally took down the balloons that were left up on the banner yesterday. Still a couple pink & blue streamers & "it's a boy"/"it's a girl" ribbons hanging around though. I should pull them down today.

O, you should have seen the guy's face at the store when we were buying decorations, lol. He asked if we were having a party..duh, lol..And DD said "A Baby shower for my mouse"..He got this confused look on his face, and was silent. A minute later he said "A baby shower for your aunt?" DD & I started laughing and she explained..the guy was so shocked. He said "I thought that's what I heard, but I thought I had to have heard it wrong" He prob thought we were psychotic, lol.

My hamster ate all of hers and they were alive. She didn't eat them all at once and I think thats why I hated her. I kept hoping if I put more and better treats in there she would leave at least one alone. Some just aren't good parents, lol.

Get her a pregnant guinea pig. Their babies are born furry and able to run around and their mother won't serve them as an appetizer.

One of our Guinea pigs was nice enough to have her babies in front of all 8 kids. We all stood in a semicircle around her cage. As she was having them I explained that this was exactly like what happened when a person has a baby...up until she turned around & started eating the afterbirth. All the kids were yelling GROSS! I told them the Dr didn't make us eat it. The babies are almost as big as Momma.

Kristy, it scarred you for life didn't it? lmao. That's terrible for a child to witness, and for it to be carried on like that. I'm thankful DD's was pretty quick, overnight actually. So she didn't have to go through what you did. Though when we had hamsters a few years back, the kids did see the one dead baby get eaten. "Mommy what is she doing?" That was nice.

Karyn, no thanks, lol. This morn we got to her school early, and went to the lobby to visit all the critters they have. She said.."O I should have gotten a rat." I had to say I told you so. Tried to talk them both into gettings rats, but noooo. Then the 4 yr old starts with her, "I want a rabbit just like this one" She wants anything as long as she can name it "Sheila". Then the 9 year old again with the guinea pig, "O isnt he so cute? I want a guinea pig..OMG mom, it has no nose, just holes!!" The she saw how it was biting the cage and saw it's teeth and changed her mind lol. I told her I don't care, she wanted mice, she got em, she's stuck with 'em. SHe has it in her head she should get 'replacements' for the babies. I think not! they werent supposed to happen to begin with! They were a bonus, too bad it turned out to be a booby prize.

Linda, that's funny. How many babies did she have? Don't they normally just have 1 or 2? I had a guinea pig years ago, she had 2 babies while I had her..I wanted to kill them when they would wake me up w/their whistling. That drove me nuts. I don't remember what happened to them? I musta been in like 5th grade.

Lol, I think it did. The boys insisted on having hamsters when they were little and they had babies and didn't eat them but the momma learned how to open the little round doors on the house and get out and she decided she like the nest she made in my couch better than the cage. Then I found them and put them back and thought I fixed it so she couldn't get back out but she did and took all the babies with her again. I lived in an apartment at the time and came home one night and there were several running around the parking lot. I moved not long after that and my ex boyfriend lived next door and told me later they had eaten through the wall and got into his dry goods and he thought he had rats so put out a trap and imagine his surprise when he caught a hamster, lol. Those things are invasive, lol. Ok enough about the hamsters before I have nightmares, lol. I need sea monkeys. Where do you get them now? I like guinnea pigs too but I'm allergic to them.

Kristy go to any aquarium that sells salt water fish and I'm sure they'll carry brine shrimp, probably eggs too. You can also Google "buy sea monkeys" and come up with loads of retailers.

Daniella you should send your kids over to my house. It's like a petting zoo. lol They'd come back home and really start bothering you about getting them more pets. my friends tell me thatthey have to listen to their kids whine for hours about getting a pet when they leave our house. They neglect to ask my kids just how much work it is taking care of them. Even finding the time to play with each animal daily can be a chore with all their other comittments. If they don't have the time to give each animal individual attention that means that they shouldn't have them, right?

Thanks Karyn. I had a zoo too when we lived in the country but I ended up taking care of everything. Now I stick to fish, my one legged bird and the dogs. Thats enough but I want sea monkeys again now and have to show hubby, lol.

Daniella, This poor little piggy had 4. She got so huge, she looked like 3 pigs in a row.

Kristy, How on earth did you get a one legged bird? My best friend had a one eyed shaded silver Persian. It was a show cat (Grand Champion) & had it removed due to an infection. Flat face with this one huge green eye staring back at you as only cats can. I tried to get my friend to rename her Cyclops.

That's funny about the hamsters. My oldest DD took all her hammies to her Dad's for the summer visit. Her little step sister opened the cages & left them all out. There were about 5 or 6 of them & most of them were pregnant. Hamsters everywhere. They chewed everything. Open a cupboard or a drawer, there they were chowing down on the goodies. It took forever to get rid of them & her stepmother was furious. (big grin)

DD got her sea monkeys at Target. You get those sea monkeys!! Your inner child needs them, lol. If Target has them then I bet Walmart does too. Her setup was cute, the tank had magnified areas so you could see them real good. Freaky lil things, lol.

Karyn, I completely agree with you. If they can't do what they need to with their critters, can't spend the one on one time with them they need, then they shouldn't have them. I'll be damned if I get stuck having to do it all, I have enough to do. And I know when the 4yr old gets her pet, I'll be doing alot of that work. Karyn, if I brought my kids to your house, they'd probably never want to leave, lol. I have a hard enough time getting them to leave the elementary school's pet area, and the pet store..forget it!

If these mice here get loose, I don't think they'd stand much of a chance, between the cat, the dogs, and the 'just in case' traps in the basement.

I swear I think the hamsters were more prolific than mice and did more damage, lol. Revenge of the hamsters. I think I'll go turn loose a herd of them at someones house that recently made me extremely mad, lol. I will check at target. I have never seen them at wal mart or pets smart. You need the magnifying parts on the tank to see them good that comes with the little setup. They never lived long but I always enjoyed watching them hatch and swim around.

but it all reminds me of something that happened recently: My dd has a snake and decided to raise her own mice for feeding it. We started out with a girl and boy mouse and later added another female to the mix. Well, the male kept chasing this new female around, and we thought okay he just wants to mate with her.... Apparently NOT because my dd looked in the cage a few days later and the male mouse was chewing on what looked like to be a tail!!
On closer inspection, we found guts etc in the cage litter and the new female mouse was gone! Guess which mouse we decided to feed to the snake right then and there? My dd decided she will be buying all her feeder mice from now on.

Good to see you posting Lennette. You need to post some pics of your new place. I bet its beautiful there. I hope you are getting all settled in. Glad my daughter doesn't want any rodents, lol.

OMG made me remember my pet bunnies. My sister had a big lop-ear female and I had some tiny miniature something or other that we thought was female. Oops. Momma rabbit was so big and the "donating" male was so small that we didn't even realize momma was pregnant until the day we found the half-eaten babies in the hutch. Ugh.

When my kids get old enough to start begging for pets I'll have to think of an animal that won't cannabilize it's young. lol.

Hey Kristy..ya gotta look in the kids section at Target. That's where they were here. You won't find them in the pet section, lol. DD said they were by the funky toys..ya know, the hairy balls, omg..no, you know what I mean..rubber squeezy balls with..ugh forget it. lol ..They are by the toys.

SJN that is so gross! Shelly I've never seen a rabbit eat their offspring even though they are nasty hairless pink things. I did end up with a littler of bunnies because I didn't get my male neutered fast enough. They can't surgically "fix" a male rabbit until their testicles descend. I guess I was lax on the ball watch because his sister ended up pregnant. I still have that pair of bunnies. They are going on 11 or 12.

Danielle, dd has a corn snake. He has already grown almost foot since we have had him. DD doesn't stun her mice but they look pretty stunned once they get dropped in the tank and see the snake! I still refuse to feed the snake cuz I feel sorry for the mice except for that cannibalist male one :)

Okay, whats up with all the hairy balls LOL? I tried to get dh to win me one of those out of a toy machine once but he couldn't lol! Guess I'll just have to go to Target and squeeze them in the toy isle and people will think I'm a total perv!

LMAO..both my DD's have them..I can't see any of them without stopping & squeezing them. They have big ones, lil ones, lol. I'm glad someone knew what I was talking about!
