It's a cactus...no it's a succulent...no...wait...huh?!?

Hi, I recently acquired a variety of succulents and cacti, and I've been trying to identify them for a few days but I'm still not sure exactly what any of them are. I've been able to make a few guesses but it would be nice to know exactly what they are so I will be able to properly care for them and I was hoping that somebody on this forum could help me, it seems like you all know what you're talking about. I think you have Mammillaria karwinskiana and Gymnocalycium baldianum.

And Haworthia mirabilis? Many different Haworthia species look the same to me.

Oh thank heavens, Ian, I thought it was just me! LOL

Your crassula is:

**Crassula ovata 'Hobbit'

Do not confuse Crassula 'Hobbit' with either Crassula 'Gollum' or Crassula portulacea (the "Jade" plant). It is definitely different. Crassula 'Gollum' has tubular leaves with "suction cup" looking leaves while the "Jade" plant has fleshy but flatter leaves. By contrast, the leaves of Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' are curved backwards/downwards from the sides.
Leaf tips take on nice red color in ideal light.**

The one on the left is A stapleia, probably gigantea. Its difficult to ID without a flower, but my asclepiad expert sister said most likely a gigantea. The one on the right is haworthia. Probably some hybrid of coarctata.

I've been growing mine for about 2 years now. I used basic cactus soil (no rocks, some perlite) and it drains fairly well through the hole in the pot. I occasionally just add more soil to the top to foster new growth. I used to live in Houston which is very humid and wet and it had many more leaves and even suffered a traumatic freeze losing almost all of its leaves. I kept it high on a porch and so it branched out. I moved back to Austin where it is much drier and much more intense sun and it suffered a heavy blow but it has since revived. I have now begun to propagate at least 5 separate cuttings. Happy growing :)

Welcome to this fabulous hobby - as you're finding out, these plants grow well in temperate zones (at least in the summer). Once you get these down, you'll want to expand your collection to include cold-hardy stuff, too, but what you have is a good start. 1) Because they worship at the altar of Mammon and don't really care about the plants. 2) Warmth, some air movement and bright light (most of the day), along with a daily spritz, will get these cacti pieces rooted - then you can pot them up. 3) Pictures would be great, but that sounds all too true - they're called glufers and I hates 'em forever (said in a Gollum voice). It sounds like you're doing things right - you might look at some of the posts here which have lots of responses, as it offers you a greater chance to turn your sponge into a Shamwow and get a lot of exposure to these plants of ours.

Your Haw. could possibly be a reinwardtii.

First picture front right maybe a H Coarctata and front left maybe a H Turgida. I can't ever tell the difference in some of these. Sometimes the only difference is the shade of green on the leaves. Care is about the same for most though.
