I have worked with both worm castings and worm tea for years now and am blown away again and again by the amazing impact they have when added to the soil as soil conditioners and plant food! Our Worm tea is produced when worm castings are mixed with water and molasses and brewed for 24 hours. The molasses will serve as a food source for beneficial microorganisms that are part of worm castings. The brewing process multiplies the beneficial microorganisms of the worm casting tea rapidly. --------------------- The finished product will achieve the best results if used within 24 hours after the end of the brewing process but will still be beneficial for several months. If you bottle it just shake it before using it to activate the remaining microorganisms. Liquidized worm castings have many positive properties for soil and plants. They act as a natural fungicide and insecticide ÷can be used as an organic fertilizer ÷will never burn plants ÷and will improve soil structure and plant health. To brew earthworm tea you will need... - a bucket or tank, - an air pump with some piping, - an air stone usually used for fish tanks, - some worm castings and molasses -and water. "i was wondering is it even possible to just keep on adding dry material/bedding and leave their casting in?" I'd say no. Eventually the bin is going fill up with castings and need to be emptied.

We keep ours in a 12" wide two level pull out cabinet next to the rangetop. The most used bottles (e.g. olive oil) are at the very front so when I need to grab them, I open the door and grab them without pulling out the shelf. The taller bottles are on the bottom shelf so we don't have to bend much to reach them. The lower sides of a pull out make it easy to see enough of the bottle and label to easily identify the bottle I want. With a 24" wide drawer, it probably won't be filled with tall bottles, but will be a mix of short and tall ones. So one will have to bend more to get the short bottles. Also, it may be harder to tell which bottle is which in a deep drawer - that of course depends on how distinctive the bottles are when viewed from above and if you remember which is which. There are also pullouts available where the shelves attach to a door and pull out with them, but for us, I feel it is easier to not have to reach under the upper shelf to reach things on the bottom shelf or bend to see the things on the bottom shelf. We have a rangetop. Heat isn't great for oils and other flavoring agents so this may be better for a rangetop or cooktop than next to the oven of a range.

I have a little 6" ledge/shelf that is low on the basement steps wall, right next to the back door. I have a larger traditional kitchen stepstool that fits nicely there and is just a few steps away from the kitchen proper. However, it is a bit heavy, so someday I will get one of those that fold down very small and find a place to keep it in the kitchen (maybe next to the pullout trash as lisapol does, or a toe-kick drawer if I ever work up the nerve to tackle that)
