There is a nice Banana, a Canna Krysty sent me that has become a clump. Any Identification? I built my arbors for one Passiflora, and for Ololiuqui. I have a pict of a very large seedling Brugmansia cross Equidor White X Rubiroso which has roundish leaves. My Alocasias and Colocasias are growing faster than I can remember, so I expect huge plants.

You cant see them but the caladiums are coming up all over.

Very nice. I purchased a few hydrangeas at the Aldridge sale in May. If anyone is interested in hydrangea, these typically sell for $25.00 and are 3 gallon plants - a bargin for a nice sized healthy hydrangea. I plan to go back in to their fall sale and buy a few more. I am going to make note of the name of this one.

Dahlia boy~ I may have to draw my imaginary sword if you got the last of King Salmon! I found it, I found it, and I'm on my way to get one. Plantlady, I love your quail. The most exotic birds we see here are herons over or in the creek, and banded pigeons. Could your 'fat birds' be gray/black with obvious orange marks and chests? Possibly Varied Thrushes? Thanks dmkelly. Even though those Walmart bags are only 50ÃÂ¢ a piece, it still is expensive when you add it all up with the peat, pine bark, bat guano and all the remaining ferts. I really thought raised garden beds would do well and they do seem better than just in the ground but the Walmart bags out performed my raised beds by far and I used the same soil mix for both. Sorry I haven't grown anything else in the bags but peppers. Everything else I much easier to grow. Peppers are very particular. These bags require much more water and more fertilizing. They are very well drained and will leach out nutrients quickly. Whenever it rained for a long time I would go out there in the rain and fertilize them with a strong solution. Iron fert like you would use for lawns helps and to combat calcium deficiency I use calcium acetate, quick lime mixed with vinegar and allowed to settle.

Ahhh, now we see the problems. ;) Nothing really major tho I know it can be worrisome to you. The stem breaks and bends are common for all of us regardless of the support system used and most all of them will heal themselves. No new growth usually develops but the fruit that is already there will still ripen as long as the break isn't complete. You can, if you wish, make an effort to mend some of the worst ones (duct tape, cloth wrap, string support, etc.) but in my experience it often does more damage trying to fix than if you just leave alone. This late in the season I sure wouldn't get too aggressive. ;) If all else fails, pick the fruit and cut off the branch. The fruit will ripen on the kitchen counter. The "disease" - some is normal leaf death for the time of year, some looks like bacterial spot/speck to me. If I am correct the best fix is some aggressive pruning and thinning of the jungle leaf branches to increase you air circulation inside the patch. As already discussed, you are overcrowded so all those infected branches can easily be sacrificed along with alot of the healthy leafy branches. The patch won't look as nice but it will be healthier. Prune early in the AM or late in the evening, not in the heat of the day, and remove all the infected stuff from the garden. I don't usually do chem sprays this late in the season but that's up to you. You are going to have plenty of good fruit to harvest befor frost so I would argue that aggressive chem treatments at this time will only cost you $$ and accomplish little. JMHO The "worm" is a tomato fruitworm (aka corn earworm, etc.) just pick them off and squish them or drown them in a dish of soapy water. Might want to buy some BT dust (Dipel) to have on hand for them next year. The "bumps" on the stems are normal. They are called stem primordia and may develop all along any tomato stem. Often it is a response to high humidity levels in the air. They are root initials and are not harmful to the plant. I'm sure others will have even more info to share but i hope this is of help. Wow your garden is awesome. With everyone posting such lovely pics of their flowers it gives me the incentive to keep working on re-landscaping our back yard. Rita made such a mess that I had given up but this year we've been busy. Hope ours will look as terrific as everyone elses or close to it. Thanks

Very pretty Barry. What are you growing on that huge arbor? I don't know what canna that is. I bought a whole garden in a box thing so I would have stuff to share at Christmas and it was part of that box. Nothing was named. I didn't even keep one for myself so send me a pic when it blooms. If it multiplies you might have to send me a piece back, lol.

hmmm Kristy there are 2 arbors "Passiflora, and for Ololiuqui"

I am a mad, loony gardener as you will see below

The passiflora has elongated blue-green colored leaves with 5 lobes and a redish stem. It is under the arbor with wire on it. The arbor will not be big enough as I see it, nor will the other with Ololiuqui, (rivea corymbosa) a Hawaiian plant in the Morning glory family. It is a year old (overwintered) and will flower this year with yellow flowers and dark throats, I believe.
I got the Passie from Eloise this winter, and it rooted nicely. i ALSO have Buttercup winter squash that I plant to train up the trailer side and grow it on top of it.

The other vines are in the main Bed and with 4 of them equa-distant around the Borneo giant Alocasia. 4 poles 16 ft long tied to a central short pointed block, will form a "tee pee"-like arbor over the Borneo giant. These Passies are Incarnata and Incense. They were started in January. I was told these are rampant growers so these will have allot of space. Am I crazy? Only if they don't grow up the poles wrapped with chicken wire!

Was that too much information? :)

I blame Karyn if they don't grow up this set of poles LOL :)

What a great looking garden ! I love to grow passies, and they seem to grow on anything ! If you dont want it to get too large just give it a trim..I have to bring mine in for the winter..and they thrive more with being cut down.

Your garden is looking wonderful ! I would LOVE to see the hawaiian plant !

I want to see the hawaiian plant too. I'll have to look it up. I had grand plans for my round gazebo as well but it got hot too fast so it has squash growing on it, lol. I will make the beds this fall I hope. I have the things in pots next to it so I won't disturb the climbing if I decide to plant or repot into bigger pots.

well actually I think I got this plant mixed up with another...
Actually, it is plain Jane Mexican, supposed to have clusters of flowers, though, unlike the morning glory, and I hope the flowers stay open all day.

Barry your brug seedlings look great. What is an Ololiuqui? Passies will grow like mad if they are happy and I'm sure they'll like your garden. Just don't feed them too much.

Karyn - Ololiuqui is the colloquial name for this shamanic plant, Rivea Corymbosa. It is a member of the morning glory family. It has yellow flowers rather than the colors of morning glories, and the flowers come in bunches. Has an interesting center. I am hoping it is out during the day.

Don't know anything else about it, but here is a picture:

Thats a really pretty flower. Let us know how they do. I have some cannas but if it is something different than what I have already I would appreciate it if you save me a piece next year. Not now, lol. Can't wait to see all my new stuff bloom too.

I have that but didn't know that was it's name. The vine's growing well but it hasn't bloomed yet.
