Are those variegated? Just wondering since my variegated succulents grow A LOT slower. But that wouldn't cause them to grow flat out like that (which looks rather interesting..). I have also noticed the top leaves of my bear paws (non variegated) have become less fuzzy. I assumed it was because they were young, but it seems to be happening to the middle-aged ones too. They were under a LED light for about 8 hours a day (just moved it recently for non-related reason). Less fuzzy, and almost as if a bit more of a sticky feeling when you touch it. Is yours like that? My new random hypothesis is perhaps due to low water/dry heated air. As for the flatness, I don't have any young/middle aged leaves showing that yet. When my bear paws are dehydrated, the leaves just concave in a little bit, and the tips/nails look sharper. My bear paws did horribly in a fully gritty mix, I had to modify it to increase the C&S soil in it. I *think* it's doing better. Your soil looks pretty peaty so it seems to be doing well. Perhaps it is less fuzzy because of dry air, and less upright because of low sunlight? All guesses...

Use a 50/50 mix of commercial cactus & succulent mix and perlite or pumice from nursery or big box store. (Sift out small particles of pumice or run water over it in a strainer, do not breathe it.) Pot much higher in that pot or a smaller one. No direct sun or water for several days. If there is anything slimy like a leaf, roots or that stem on the top, discard. Hope you can save it. If you are in a zone where it rains in spring and summer, watch that it doesn't get too wet. Leave in rain only when it needs a watering.

Growing medium was from a prize winning grower from a succulent show I got it at. It's VERY quick draining. Yes, the bottom has many many large holes for drainage. Inside light from 6am-8pm. Direct light for about 5 hours. Filtered(or potentially amplified) by a window. When the cuttings root I'll water it and I'll water the sad stems left in the pot (might as well. I was going to throw it away.) @pagan, I'm glad, that gives me hope for these guys! @ewwmayo, that makes the most sense. I've been busy this summer and my watering schedule has become erratic.
