OT: Not much time to post lately.

I have not been able to post much lately. A medical emergency Saturday has had me busy ever since playing bumper tag with doctors and the VA, setting up and doing the preliminary series of tests for what will be one or two surgeries sometime soon. Going to have to fly back and forth to southern CA for those (how fun - NOT) and probably will end up staying there for recoveries and rehab for each. Anyway, I'll post when I can but may disappear off and on the forum as this plays out.

While life threatening, I am a fighter that will win yet another battle. So I prefer no prayers or well wishes folks, just something I may have to do.

Yes Brenda, let us know what happens. My bro is left handed and it was his left hand that was injured. If was very hard for him to keep the bandages clean. You use your hand for everything. After the surgery he had therapy on his hand. Good thing it's cold out because there will be no gardening for you for a bit. Good Luck! Jill

Adella, Normally you can go to the website of the Oklahoma Forestry Service and there's a link on the website that takes you to a burn ban page with a map, a listing of counties with burn bans in place, and another link to the burn ban law. Both today and yesterday I haven't been able to access the Burn Ban page using Internet Explorer, so depending on what browser you use and whether the issue is with IE or with OFS, you may or may not be able to access the burn ban page today. The rules can vary in each county because often counties implement additional restrictions above and beyond those in the basic burn ban statute, but in most counties you are allowed to grill during a burn ban as long as you're not using an open flame. In some counties, the grill you're using has to be placed on a nonflammable surface like a paved patio or driveway. In some counties, the grill has to be at least 5 feet from anything flammable like grass or wood decking or a wood fence or whatever. The big tankers could have been fire tankers. Many fire departments have big tankers, and often they are surplus army trucks or surplus milk trucks that carry thousands of gallons of water. Most of the volunteer fire departments in our county have at least 1 or 2 tankers because there are no hydrants out in the rural countryside. Sometimes when we have very large, uncontrollable wildfires, some of the oilfield service companies here in southern OK assist us by sending us tankers full of water and we use those tankers to refuel our smaller tankers or brush trucks. On really bad wildfires far from town, a local gasoline distributor even brings out a tanker truck of gasoline and refuels the fire trucks at a location close (but not too close) to the fire. If your city or county has a website, you could check it to see if there's a County Burn Ban notice posted. When I last looked at the OFS website on Thursday, I think that 31 of OK's 77 counties had implemented burn bans, and most of them were in western/southwestern OK through central/northcentral OK. Crafty, Yup, they are an epiphytic cactus. They are quite easy to grow. Yes, they will thrive in Ohio, as long as they don't freeze! LOL! If you can keep them in a bright, cool place overwinter, then hang them in your trees in the summer (or maybe keep them under an eave) once the weather is warm, they should do well. They can't take full sun, but like dappled shade. They need a quick-draining soil and are epiphytic, like orchids. Keep them away from slugs, and don't overwater them and you should be good.

it was funny EG that you should say that about the cars and such, because my mom and her hubs are truckers, and my dad is a train engineer or something, and they both say that the one thing they see is them suv's and vans and the ones with 4-wheel drive on the side of the road all the time because people always think that they think just because they have it they can drive all crazy, also they just see lots of vehicles on the side of the road just because people are IDIOTS!!! although my dad doesn't say that because he's christian, LOL hubs will put it in a much worse way, i'm working on him though, :') i don't worry about his driving, its the dang deer, LOL we have it figured out, the deer think that the kia (being green) is a moving patch of grass so they chase him down, but we can't figure why they try to attack him. LOL did i tell you last month that one took out his mirror and while doing that he also took his door handle. LOL so now he unlocks his door and gets in thru the back door, **giggle** so when i'm irritated at him, and i'm in the front seat and its cold out, i take my time opening his door. or forget to. he just looks at me, and does the holding his hands up, and i say 'what' all innocently. **grinn** but don't think he's so abused!! i see that look!! Hee Hee!! today he's buying me a big ironing board, so i'm really happy!! Hugs from pretty ladies are always readily accepted. LOL

Was just trying to inform the group why my spotty absence may increase over the next few weeks. I didn't feel great at the time and am not into the prayer thing. But thanks, I appreciate many of you.

Feel pretty good today though, and that always lifts a persons attitude. Better yet it is blowing real hard with spotty rain here, making it a rare cool day for this time of the year. Between feeling better and the coolness I have been spending some time outside with the critters.

BTW, saw another Anteos clorinde fluttering around my yucca blooms this morning before the winds came up. They are a rare stray here seldom seen for years on end and this makes two this year so far. Must be a sign of better things to come. LOL

OMG - what a beautiful butterfly! Had to look it up, Larry! They are pretty large, too, aren't they!

It's okay whatever spiritual belief you have (or even if you have none). Had a guy tell me one time that religion is for people who are trying to stay out of hell, and spirituality is for people who've already been there! LOL! I do believe in the collective conscious (I'm getting Jungian here), though, and if enough people are praying to "whatever" or "whomever", it all goes to the same universal source.

Hope I didn't offend anyone by this post.

Susan, I don't think anyone takes offense. Not being as active in butterfly raising as you all are I'm more of a lurker, but even so have developed real affection for the people on a group such as this whose posts I read day after day and of course we wish our friends well -- whether it's called holding a positive intent or something else -- the meaning is much the same. So I too, wish you all the best Larry! May the surgery go well and you be back here with a good report soon.

(Love that definition of religion vs spirituality Susan!)
