OT: Why I Post Fire Weather Info 'Gone in 15 Minutes'

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

I always try to post Fire Weather Watch, Red Flag Fire Warning and Fire Warning/evacuation info if I am home and able to do so.

There is a very specific reason why. That reason is because of what happened to Ringgold, TX, in 15 minutes just a few years ago.

I was no stranger to wildfires. At the time Ringgold burned, we had been fighting severe wildfires in our drought-plagued county for 3 months. Still, the speed with which Ringgold burned astonished me.

I hope you'll take the time to read the linked article.

Understand that what happened in Ringgold can happen anywhere. Even here. Yesterday, for some people, was just as devastating as the fire that destroyed much of Ringgold. This is why we need to watch the Fire Weather forecast as closely as we watch Severe Weather forecasts.
