First blooms thrill

Just had to thank everyone who has nursed me thru Newbie Nerves that my Brugs are blooming!! Can't believe these barren stix that sat in water in my kitchen all thru our "freeze" not only leafed out, but Charles Grimaldi is blooming and budding even while still in its pot. My noids have all turned out to be white blooms. Question: I have an Ecuador Pink that is still rooting in water (will pot this weekend) and it sent out a large bloom, but it was white and remained white. Does this mean I bought a cutting that was mislabeled, or do they come true to color as the plant matures. Hope I don't end up with All white blooms. LOL BTW, non of my blooms have a scent; is this usual for the first flush? Again, many thanks for all your help thru my first experience with these Wonderful plants. Gloria

Congrats on your blooms. Your CG doesn't have a scent? That's odd. Have you tried smelling it at night? Mine don't have much of a smell, if any at all during the day but at night the smell becomes very strong. I couldn't say about the Ecuador Pink. It might be because it's inside. My flower color isn't nearly as intense when they are blooming inside. Once you get it outside in the sun the color might change. With some brugs, mainly seedlings, you don't know the true color until a few flushes have bloomed.

Those white noids are they the nursery plants? All of my plants are very fragrant. Not during the day. I just love to watch them bloom. My grimaldi's are fairly big and just now have Y's. I hope they put on a good flush. I am tired of just a few blooms. A month and a half ago I was watching my 1st bloom. I was excited. You need some Night blloming jasmine. I am in love with mine. Every coming of the full moon they bloom and it is a special time to be outside. It lasts about a week.

1st blooms are special. You need to break out a digital camera and post some pics. I would like to see them.

Julia, Mabou is from a more Northern hybridizer. After several bboming years, last year was just so-so for Citrix, but it has mnay more blooms this year than last. Mantix, Indigo Edge is about the same size bloom as Citrix. Brad, I lost my first Spoken in Parables to voles, but liked it so well I replaced it. Jean, some of the fancies take more than one season to really settle in, and I will wait6 for this for CB. Debra, my eye is too easy to catch:). Thanks, Ruth, I like too many of them myself. Chris, I really figured Indigo Edge would have trouble opening, but it opened well, early. I bought Mabou because I love the photo New York Rita posted of hers. Thanks, Jean. George, It was so nice to finally meet you yesterday. Although I still do not know how you missed us walking by w/ the GIANT Cherokee Geisha on my baby's head! LOL. Thank you very much for bringing TC to me! I love her already. I don't have anything quite like that so she's very special. Deep red with a nice fragrance = LOVE! George, I got the canoe to take up to Yosemite, to go canoeing there. Unfortunately, haven't had the time to get all the way up there. So I started practicing in the pool, and before you know it, it became a daily activity. I'm very good at turning now! Does anybody remember the old Hamm's Beer sign that had a moving picture of a red canoe going past a waterfall, and ending at a campsite with a campfire? It was scenic and beautiful and hypnotic - something most beer signs today aren't! May have affected me as a kid. Allison (toomanydogs), I like the way you think! The house on the right has a bigger yard, hmmm. Of course, there's still the off chance that Jandey will move next door! I hope she brings one moving truck with those Texas pralines! And thanks for coming to the meeting, it was a long drive for you, Allison. That was a blast though. Can't wait till the next! Thanks Mark! Here's a fairly large Double Knock Out in the front yard--in the divider between my property and the neighbor's. Haven't had time to anything with it yet this year, so its looking a bit wild and woolley--and maybe lop-sided. I'll try to get some pruning done before the season is over. : ) Light blue irises came with the property when I bought my house thirty something years ago--don't know their name, but they bloom forever (for an iris). Another iris--name unknown. Sure is lovely. Here's a terrific fully packed white peony called Festiva Maxima--love that blood-red like marking in the middle of the blooms. I read somewhere once that this old classic is a good choice for more southerly gardeners, but I don't remember why. I have 4 of them. BIG blooms. Its getting so exciting now that things are nearly ready to bloom--can't believe the buds all over the yard--have never seen so many. Oddly, however, my hybrid teas are not taking over the show like they usually do. I thought with the mild winter we had, they would do terrifically well, but it seems the shrubs and floribundas are the ones doing best. But maybe that will all change in the next few weeks. This is about 3 weeks early for my roses--any of them--to be blooming. Kate

Karyn: Big Duh! Never thought about smellng blooms at nite ... did the sniffing during the day. All my plants
(including the Ecuador Pink in water)are outside. CG has opened and the blooms are Looooong and lovely. Will follow my nose tonite.
Jim: The noids are nursery plants I bought unmarked on sale! Big ones in 5 gal tubs. (Not your cuttings) These are all white, but nothing special about them, so far. What didn't survive are the Maypops. They just never recovered the shipping. Sorry, after all your hard work digging them up. Still appreciate your efforts. Must try to get a camera and then learn how to post pix.

Congrats on your blooms. Isn't it wonderful?
My E_pink has always turned pink after initially being white after first opening- (sometimes it takes a day though), even when it was a small cutting. My E. Pink seems to bloom more in the fall and winter here. I agree with Jeep, you must grow Night Blooming Jasmine, it is awesome. I vow to never be without that one! Sometimes it seems the white NOIDS are the best bloomers and have the strongest fragrance. I have some that I think are in the suaveolens family that are white and just never stop.

Wow! Congrats on the first blooms. I know the feeling. On May 22nd of this year, my Charles Grimaldi bloomed for the first time. I grew 9 from seeds and only this one has bloomed--so far. I took pics and use one for the background on my computer now. John

By the way, I tried to add a pic but I could not figure out how to add it to the post.
