Ae. blanchetiana x mulfordii - I bought this a couple of months ago on Shane's advice, it was a scrappy green plant but Shane said it would colour up nicely which I think it has.

I often wonder if you were cursing me or glad for the advice on that blanchetiana x mulfordii...it has coloured up very nicely indeed. Phew!

I love this tree too. The one in Scottsdale is nothing compared to the one in Tempe in the lakes community south of Baseline and east of Rural. I talked to a guy that lives next to it, and he said that one of the original renters of this apartment complex planted it in the early 70s. It's got to be 80 feet tall. Truly looks like a tree out of the rain forest. The ones in the forest of uco at the zoo have those great aerial roots because they are constantly misted in the summer. Mine did not produce significant aerial roots until I hooked us some misters around it. Next time you go to the zoo, notice the variation between the trees. It is not just one species of Ficus. There are three distinct growth types at the zoo. The older ones in the forest of uco and the ones near the entrance have straight growing branches with spaced perfectly oval leaves. I think these are the F benghalensis. The one next to the bird cage that is north of the ocelot has longer and less oval leaves and I think it is a F lutea. Across from it, there is one with sharper and darker leaves that was recently planted. It even has a botanical sign - it is a F trichopoda (amazingly striking) The newer ones across the elephants and near the spider monkeys have more erratic growing branches and less perfect leaves. New growth swirls around and is not erect like benghalensis. This is the kind I have. IÂve been trying to figure out what kind this is for a while. It could be one of a dozen species from Africa that look very similar. They all have large leaves and easily grow aerial roots. There are also several large F palmeri (do not grow aerial roots, but sure can hug a rock) around the zoo that look similar, but these are locals from the southern sonoran desert. Tony

I like hot pink better too - but - until they bloom - you do not know if your starter will be on a darker shade - or on the paler shade. The pic I posted was a CHIMERA - a pinwheel mitation of this variety...very rare. Intense colored original - is hot pink and green gold frill. Very rich. Still cheaper than a Tesla. I would not be in a hurry to buy anything from eBay unless you live in a South and the seller in a South too. I went to see my Mom in a Senior living today... 2 hours later when I took off - 3 inches of snow on the growd and keeps coming, car is skidding, accidents all over the place.. it was a very long 10 mile drive. The idea of moving to FL seemed very very good...

The white sands you see, Terrene, are sand bars on the other side of the river. There's a small sand bar on my side. According to most everybody, it doesn't flood on the high bluff where my land is located. The soil appears to be just sand, so it beats me how the Passiflora lutea could grow so much bigger than it did on my other, inland woods, where the soil appeared to be so much better. There are some plants that I've always wanted to have that only grow on the sandy bluffs of the rivers and creeks. If you try to grow them on heavy or even good, loamy soil, they'll die. I closed today! It was kind of sad, because the wife of the couple that I bought it from told me her husband had cancer all over and wouldn't live long. She said they were selling the land, because they wanted to use the money to enjoy what time he had left. But on a happy note, the previous owners told me the woods across the river from my property would never be built on, because it's a wildlife sanctuary! Sherry

Dear mbug, I am writing you this strongly worded letter of complaint regarding the photos you posted. Hi Rick, great displays! Hope you have a fire plan too! N Gunpowder has a purple/red centre, almost iridescent. Also your N corriae-araujoi x looks like one of the c-a I registered as Blister, all grown from seed from Burle-Marx's garden sent over by Leme if I remember right. Red Macaw came from the grex but a few of us grew on the seed with similar variations, just like the clump in SRBM Brazil.
Can you or anyone else tell me more about Black Olive?

Beautiful garden there Rick - some stunning broms! Am getting jealous of you folks in more tropical areas - everything looks so healthy compared to the dust-bowl conditions here (even the tree ferns!).

All good though - we've had some construction going on out the back here thats been dragging on so the garden is a mess - with pots hiding everywhere but should be finished this week so Im eagerly looking forward to getting stuck into the garden. Seeing everyone's pics on here is a great way to get inspired and gain some new ideas so thanks for posting.

At least the greenhouse is started!

Pedro, thanks for the info about Gunpowder, I couldn't find any info about Blister on FCBS or the web but I got it off someone who was in BSQ about ten years ago so you are possibly on the money.

Apologies about Ae. Black Olive - I must have got confused with Neo. Black Olive. It is labelled Ae. Olive Cream #10, I won it recently in a BSQ auction, it may be one of Olive Trevor's. I can send you a pup down if/when it pups.
