OT: 4 Days and Counting!!

Our very own and Beloved Karyn is leaving for Holiday on the 15th..AHHHH the Tropic's!!

Time for us all to start Celebrating for her and sending out our Well wishes!! AND of course Begging for lots of pic's!! LOL

Karyn I am so excited for you!!! I hope you have a Wonderful Time Chicky!!! PIC"S PIC"S PIC"S!!!

I want to see everything!! ;0)

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! How've you all been?

Karyn, I see you've got quite the excitement ahead of you. I'm sure you'll thoroughly ENJOY checking out those tropical gardens and their environments with the expertise of one who truley can appreciate such things. I know you're going to love your trip.

Kylie, you have a package in the mail as promised. Your dbl yellow offspring and a few of jack's purple specimens are on their way. A couple other little surprises but couldn't find any of my hibiscus seeds which dissappointed me and was part of the cause for the delay. I hope you recieve them timely.

Spring is almost here, and is already for some of you - HAPPY GARDENING ALL!

Karyn, try to stay in the moment while you're on vacation.
Lest it be all gone before you think about it instead.

Karyn, enjoy your vacation, you will be able to bring back tons of tropical plants, my favorite is the torch ginger.

Not as bad as it sounds terpguy. This has been overall the easiest winter with a very warm December. First time no added heat for December. I have a small green house with roll down isinglass panels. During the winter A flap on each end stays open until colder weather rolls in. Then the remaining 2 flaps go down. I keep blooming plants on display in the patio area. Many of those are moved either in the house or green house. If there are additional fronts on the map my orchids could on rare occasion stay flap down as long as a week. But usually it is for a day or 2. And typically after a 1 or 2 day flap down there could be 1 to 3 weeks of flaps up. My most work with the orchids is Dec through February. Usually December is more work than the rest of the winter. So I'll probably over 3 winter months while winterized I'll have about 6 events like that. March most winters is no extra work. So now I think I'm home free. Flaps go up and stay up. Until next December. I guess and hope. Then there are orchids in the landscape on the trees. They fend for themselves. Also I have 2 very big pots of a terete vanda. They have amazed me. They are very tolerant of cold weather. Thought they would die.

Thanks y'all! I am very happy about it. I knew I would have a really hard time with tonight's class, so I was getting fired up. Good thing I did. After driving there, every memory of the past 25 years or so got touched tonight. My first "real" boyfriend's home had 50 year old trees downed. My first home with a husband, the place where we turned to go there, the landmark businesses I used to drive by are leveled (nothing stands in a 100 foot radius there), a friend I haven't seen in about five years lives down Tomahawk Trace, the street we like to drive down at Christmas time to see the lights decimated.... the list goes on. Twisted poles, destroyed buildings, tarps on every other home, railroad track uprooted, I just couldn't be believe what I was seeing. It is horrible. I cried all the way to class. Just when I calmed down, my classmate tells me all about the two who died... well, let's just say, that family is the greatest thing since sliced bread, so in love with each other, so so so in love with their new child... he was clinging to her and the baby when they were ripped from his arms. I mean could it be any worse? He's either in too much pain (broken ribs and back) or too shocked to understand they're really gone. Every classmate had a story. I vied with dump trucks filled with the remnants of homes all the way there. Our teacher is a major in the police department. I wish I'd had a recorder to catch all his numbers. 62 injured, 7 admitted, 1 lifeflighted to VUH. Search and Rescue from LaVergne, Smyrna, and Nashville all came. The police are being augmented by LaVergne and Smyrna. County. THP has a command post on the south end of town. The most amazing part of the foces,every last one of them showed up before being called. Volunteers continue to clean it up; it's in the millions worth of damage. I have all my stuff gathered and picked out and had to send two boxes, lol. One will leave Thurday, not sure when the best day will be if the post office is going to have a day off next week. I need to dig and mail some things the same day or they might not make the trip. My secret santa person is getting gifts from both me and John. I knew I should have put his name in the darn thing. Lol. Noooow he wants to participate. He is having fun.

Kylie I think you are more excited then me. I thought that maybe you were going to have more calves when I saw the thread title. lol We are out of here tomorrow and of course I haven't done @$%* to get ready. The main issue was getting someone to care for all the animals. The girl that usually does it will be out of town so I've been scrambling. Bailey, my dog, will stay at the farm and I found a local high school kid to care for the rest of the menagerie at the house. Nobody to take care of the plants : ( I'm going to empty everything but the succulents from the greenhouse and put them in a shaded area of the yard. The GH is too hot when it's sunny and the mister won't provide enough water. I don't think that temps will get too cold here anymore this year, at least I hope not, or I'll have a whole bunch of dead plants. This year's vacation was an easy decision but we are already arguing about spring break next year. Grrrrrr!

Karyn, hope you were able to leave home without too much more hassle of finding someone to care for your animals. I think that is one of the biggest problems with being responsible for animals. Plants, you can try to water as much as possible and hope for the best, but you can't do that with animals. Anyway, whatever the "Tropics" means, hope you are having lots of fun!
