How can I get my brug to bloom

I have three brugs, and live in Ontario. For a number of years I have had wonderful blooms, but the last two years they bloom late if at all,(an issue when the summers are short)and there are less blooms, even though the plants are lush and healthy.

I have searched for info, and am confused. One site says to create a Y, and blooms form from the Y area.

Does anyone know how to do this?

OThers say that in cutting them back in fall, to leave 6 to 10 nodes on the stem. I have never done this, and before it was no problem.

Yet another says use tomatoe fertilizer to set blooms, and epsom salts once a month. How soon should you start this protocol.

My brugs are in bush form. SHould I allow only a limited number of branches to sprout from the base?

As background, I have a pink, a white, and a variegated leaf, with white flowers (don't know official names). My brugs are in pots. I cut them down to the pot every fall, bring them in to my basement and start them growing again in late March.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
