Very pretty. I like that potatoe plant. I was looking hard at this peach tree at Lowes yesterday with dark red leaves and it had fruit on it already. It looked like a Japanese Maple. I should have gotten it, lol.

Very nice. I love the potato bush. I haven't had great results with it here. I've grown it from seed a few times but have never gotten them to reach blooming size. I had a peach tree but since I don't spray the bugs got more of the peaches then me and I got sick of picking up rotting fruit. I only have berries, kiwis and figs now. I am starting a few grapes but don't know if I'll be able to battle the wasps. At least there's a number of orchards nearby but there's nothing like picking fruit off your own trees. Enjoy them.

Karyn, the potato bushes i have (3 total) are grown from cuttings, so they are blooming despite their small size. Im going to train them into standards. we'll see how it goes. I agree about picking fruit from your own trees. I live in the central valley of Cal, and we are the largest fruit and produce growing region in the US. I am literally surrounded by endless fields of almonds, peaches, pears, pomegranates, plums, apricotts, figs, citrus, persimmons, plums, cherries, cantaloupes, table grapes, raisin grapes, wine grapes, watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, string beans, squash, carrots, lettuce, strawberries, raspberries...you name it, its grown comercially here. There is such a surplus of produce in the summertime that you cannot get rid of your excess fruit if your life depended on it because everyone has access to their own fruit. All that to say that it is WAY better when you can walk outside and pick produce from your own plants.

I've always wanted a cherry tree. Do you have any problems with bugs on them? I have two purple potato bushes, that I sort of let grow wild. I try trimming one into a standard, but every time I turn around, it's grown out of that shape!

Eloise, aphids are pretty much the only thing that have bothered my cherry trees. A good spray with insecticidal soap will get rid of them though.

central_cali369, I live in Bakersfield, it's locate in the middle of the desert! dry, hot, dusty,and only rain once a year!!!and suround by state prisons;)and hospitals. it's about an hour or two south of Fresno. I'm probably making it sound like hell :), but it's not that bad, we have a lot of nice people here.

Hong, Bakersfield isn't that bad. Bakersfield is the warmest spot in the valley. Youguys have an average 2 degrees F warmer year round. In the winter, that is good news because danger of frost is minimal, but in the summer its not so good news. I was there last weekend on my way to tehachapi. I stayed at my friend's home on California Street. Speaking of prisons, Chowchilla has the biggest women's prison in the whole country. Then theres the prison in Mendota right next to us too.

We do have frost, and it seem like the frost comes every winter. This last winter was not that bad, it only killed couple of my plants, but the winter before last, that frost kill my whole yard, I had to replace everything.
You are right about the summer here, sometime it can get up to 105 drg. I am worry about my plants this summer. I think fresno is a little cooler. Speaking of Tahachapi, did you know it has a beautiful botanical garden; it has all of the native plants, and shaggy pony. owner is a really nice old man, he name the garden "mourning cloak ranch". the last time I was there, I got him sold me all kinds of neat stuffs. although, one funny thing is that not too many local know about it.
