Help! I'm losing cats :(

Well,
The first three eggs I brought in all made it to about the 3rd-4th instar, then they fell on the enclosure floor and just laid there twitching. So far, it's only happened in one enclosure, but I fear for my other ones. This happens with no warning. The cats walk around like they are drunk, then have a watery stool, then are inactive and unable to climb. This happened last year with my BSTs.
What is going on here, and how can I keep it from spreading?

Air conditioning and tick and flea medicine. Keep containers away from both.

Where are you getting their food? Does your area spray for mosquitoes? The mosquito fogging trucks have started, and if your food source is hit with the fogging chemicals, it will kill your cats. Anything within 40 - 50' from the road can be affected.

Calshaye - I think to identify the problem we need to see the pics of your algae and Powdery Mildew. Something doesn't ring right. Powdery mildew on perlite? I can imagine some fuzzy mold on perlite, but not PM. PM looks like somebody sprinkled your leaves with fine white powder. You will not be able to see it on perlite no matter what. If it is a fuzzy mold, not PM - it is harmless - and replacing the soil on the surface is probably the max you need to do. Algae - if you have it - no reasonable amount of Physan is going to kill it. Very concentrated Physan probably will - but your plants will be killed first. It is mostly harmless, it consumes the fertilizer to some extent and it is absolutely bad if you are trying to grow something from seeds.It will choke them. otherwise - replacing the top layer of the soil is probably the most you need to do - or just leave it alone. How much fertilizer you put in your water? What is the brand of your 7:7:7? I appreciate this discussion, thank you for all your comments. I thought I was alone with a mystery problem. Getting rid of these sassafrass suckers or seedlings has been impossible. The roots are too deep in established beds to dig out. The later comment about an established sassafrass tree dying might be a clue as to what's going on over here. There was a really big Norway maple on the neighbor's property that they took down about 12 years ago. That's allowed a little Norway maple to flourish on our property to create a lot of shade. Also a lot of Sassafrass trees popped up on the neighbor's property, and we let one grow on our property. Ever since then the suckers come up everywhere and don't stop no matter how we slice and dice and pull out as much as we can. The little ones are sprouting up ALL OVER, by the dozens, and we've dug down 2 feet in the places where we can and we still don't get the whole root out. Use caution with sassafrass. It may be native but there are some natives that become invasive pests, and sassafrass seems to be one, along with some rudbeckia and a few others. I agree about the maples, especially if it's a Norway Maple, which are an invasive non-native. I've seen some maples here on Long Island, I think they're called swamp maples, they appear to share space with other plantings more peacefully than Norway Maples. I would never have considered round up but some compelling points are made above. Makes me wonder if the salt, vinegar and soap I spray on poison ivy leaves would work on the sassafrass suckers.. I was loosing my hair by the handfulls too and my hair had always been somewhat thin. Now I had about 5 spots that were nearly bald. I went to my family doctor who did bloodwork and he said it was alopecia and I knew it was not. He gave me 1 milligram tablets of Finisteride and said it should start producing hair within six months. It didn't help at all. Then I went to a dermatologist and he assured me I would not loose all of my hair and that it was alopecia. I knew there was no family trait of loosing hair so that wasn't it. I found a highly recommended dermatologist and he said he thought it was alopecia but that the 1 milligram tablets of Finisteride wasn't strong enough. He gave me five milligram tablets and told me to come back in eight months. The meds didn't help so I went back. He said just in case it was an infection he gave me an antibiotic called Doryx. Within 4 days of starting the Doryx my hair quit falling out and grew back in. I'm still taking the Finesteride and it's never grown any hair. If your family does not have a history of hair loss do not take "Alopecia" as a diagnosis. Keep going to dermatologists until you find a good one.

Got my cat from local shelter at about 10 weeks old. At initial vet visit, she was treated for fleas... one of those tube thiings that squeeze out onto skin. At that time, fleas weren't a BIG problem... more of a preventative. WELL, about 6 weeks after I got her, my house was LOADED with them!?! June is 1st cat and totally indoors, so I was totally confused as to WHERE these critters were coming from. She likes to lay by screen door that opens to back yard and I thought maybe they were coming THRU the screen??? They are pretty teeny, after all. Vet said that most likely the few that she had when I brought her home hopped off and snuggled into carpet. Then hatched a few weeks later to cause all kinds of bedlam. She HIGHLY recommended a spray called Siphotrol. Had to vacuum the H outta every soft surface... mainly carpets... moving as much furniture as possible and immediately disposing of vac bag OUTSIDE house tied up in plastic bag. Spray did NOT require "evacuation" of house. Went down like those carpet cleaner sprays... upside down can and fine mist... not smell to speak of. Only had to "quarantine" kitten in bathroom for an hour or so until the spray was thoroughly dry... only slightly dampened carpet. Was told not to worry about any rooms in house that did not have carpet... like bathrooms or kitchen. Did this ONE TIME (over 2 years ago) and have not seen a single flea since. Got spray from vet. A little pricey (about $15-20 a can) but WELL WORTH IT... didn't even use entire can to spray livingroom, 3 bedrooms, hallway/stairs and diningroom.

No A/C, no flea and tick chem, and no spraying schedule.
The food comes from my front and side yards and also down the street.
So far, knock on wood, only the one enclosure was affected. The other cats seem to be fine. The only difference is that those cats were raised on Swamp Milkweed and the others are being raised on Common Milkweed.

i might be wrong but cats wonder around and pulsate before cacooning. try to switch the food items around. what kind of cats?

This really does sound like pesticide. Your down the street source may be poisoned.

I wash my caterpillar's food with the sprayer in my kitchen sink before feeding it to them, in case there could be small bugs on it I didn't see, or, even though I'm a long way from my neighbors, they may have used a pesticide that could have traveled by air this far. If you're living in a typical neighborhood, your neighbors' use of pesticides would be even more likely to get on your host plant food, so if you wash your caterpillar food, that might help.

It may be that they've got some type of virus.

Are you having cool/cold night time temperatures? I've had a few cats die in early spring when the nights were real cool, whose deaths couldn't be attributed to anything else.
