Why do I never see Echeveria cante in small pots? It's always in a big pot for $20. I usually don't shell out that much:(

I agree-- I never see E. cante in a smaller size. The few times I've seen it, it has been in quite large pots for $20 upwards. :/

I will have to resist adding all my 'e' plants here as I have hundreds of photos to add and simply can't make up my mind which to leave out.. bummer (Echeverias, Euphorbias, Encephalartos, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Epiphyllum and Eriosyce... and then there are the Echiums and Erythrinas I grow in the cactus garden, too.... too too many). After I see what is added, I may chime in to fill in some of the blanks not covered.

Howard, they're gorgeous. And the E. diffractens, in particular, gets me. More pics to follow, I surely hope! ;)

OK, here's round two....

All of the seedlings are my propagation. I'm hoping my E. bupleurifolia male cooperates with my females... Oh, that's not "G-rated"!!!!!

And, you know how a I can't ever get rid of anything. So, by September I have sooooo many extras. Right now I must have 30+ E. diffractens growing; and as you see they can flower on itsy bitsy plants! So stay posted.

Maybe the reason you don't see small Cantes is because they might be difficult to propagate, but easy to grow. So the nursery spends a lot of effort just to get a tiny plant. But who is going to spend $25 for a two inch pot? So maybe they just wait until they are in a six inch pot then sell them so they can get their propagating investment back? Maybe those of us with Canates should try to propagate them and see what happens!

The foliage on the Euphorbia decaryi is beautiful, Howard. And if you have so many extra E. diffractens and they're on your trade list...I may have to scoop up one or two. ;)

Hello everyone, the Echeverias are beautiful such lovely pastel colors, I dont have much luck with them as I cannot give them enough light in the winter I wish I could.

I am loving the Euphorbias so many unusual varieties! This is one of my favorite plant groups.
Christopher, your E. bupluerifolia x suzanne is one of the plants I am really fond of, I hope to find another one of these days.

Howard your euphorbias are so green and lush I am ashamed to put mine on I have kept everything very dry this winter and they are only now showing some signs of green.

Ronda, your E. greenwayii might have a beautiful caudex buried in the pot. The other thing is you could take a cutting of one of the arms and root it and make a new plant with a nice caudex. In fact, I'd love a an are or two and see what happens; the plant is beautiful.

If I were a kid, I'd be sorely tempted to give E obesa a squeeze. Actually, even now I'm curious as to what it looks like inside. And ghost looks like you dumped a can of paint on it! Whoever named E. horrida new what they were talking about! It doesn't take must of a stretch of my imagination as to how those plants got their names. Just amazing plants and so interesting to see! Great collection you have there.

Rosemarie, that echeveria is unreal I have never seen one that looks varigated it is so perfect!
Ryan that epi bloom is so pretty, very nice color I have only seen the pinks and reds.

Thank you Sharon, I am just now getting back into collecting I decided I am not that old and the plants are one of my biggest joys in life.

Howard, I have not noticed a caudex on the E. greenwayii, but it has been some time since it was repotted, and it just so happens that I have 2 cuttings that broke off when I moved it in this fall and I stood them up in another pot with pumice and they are showing roots now, you are welcome to them.I am not sure how we make comtact on here...... let me know , Ronda

Penny, I am sorry but you will just have to stick to squeezing the Charmin lol! the obesa look soft but they are of coarse hard as a rock, I have never seen inside one other than when it was rotted mushy.

My E. bupluerifolia x suzannae is the second one I have attempted. The first one I bought a year or two before this one, I killed, I think by keeping it too dry in winter, so the roots dried up, and when I went back to watering in spring, it rotted. This one I have watered throughout the winter, and it seems to have fared better.

Oh, the White Ghost is another favourite of mine, have two tiny cuttings, hope they grow for me this year.

Then I will send you my address and some money to cover postage, etc. Thank you. When I say "caudex" what I think may happen is that it may develop enlarged roots like E. knuthii. I currently have 4 of these that I cut and rooted a year ago. I will be taking several from the stock plant this spring as well as cutting the main stem from last year's plants. So, I will have several to trade, sell or just give away... giving makes me feel good inside. This encourages the plant to put out more growth for a nice showy head. While I don't know for certain that your plant will do the same, I'd like to try.

My Echeveria agavoides has never looked as good nor have any of my other Echeveria. In fact, most get various degrees of etiolation because I just don't/can't get enough good daylight/sun in the winter! Your plants are great. Geoff, your photos are just delicious! The ones with drops of water on them make them look so fresh. What is great for me, as a still newbie at this, is that I get to see what these plants look like as they grow. For example, I thought my E. agavoides was coming down with some sort of red speckled pox disease and now I see that those markings are normal for this plant. Thanks for posting! The more the better!

Doc, in the long daylight hours of summer in MI, do your plants grow like crazy to make up for the short days in winter?

Ronda, totally tempted by the idea of a E. ingens cutting, but I should probably resist! What I wouldn't be able to resist, though, is the blue-gray cactus beside the E. ingens crest--I think maybe Myrtillocactus geometrizans forma cristata? Swoon over those! I'm not really into the typical cacti; they've gotta be crested to get my interest.

Landuc, Holy cow! Where did you get that plant? I've never seen anything like it. That photo is terrific with the light on it.

Penny, if you like that, you'll enjoy this, too. There are several hybrids of Echeveria with lumpy bumps, including 'Etna', 'Barbillion', 'Paul Banyan'. I've given up trying to figure out which mine is. I always have several extras because it gets top heavy and I whack it and the stem puts out more pups. Mine looses its bumps and nice color in the winter because of insufficient light.

The center back row is my original plant which is pictured in the 2nd picture from this past summer. All of the others are pups I've taken over the past several years... I just can't bring myself to pitching them!

I purchased the seedling 5yrs ago. When I got it home I saw a tiny obesa poking through the topdressing and thought it was a volunteer. The following year it stated to elevate above the gravel so I unpotted to find it was an off-set. Each year it has gotten taller.

Thanks Keith. I believe it is unusual for obesa to pup like that. I know I have some other Euphorbia that send out "runners" that circle the pot and then emerge. They also get that "callous" look to the lower body portion.

Thanks for the compliment regarding my photography skills, pennyhal. I got the plant at a nearby wholesaler for $8, believe it or not. They had a bunch of gibbifloras and only one other had curled leaves, and its were not as curled.

My understanding, bikerdoc5968, is that most if not all Echeverias with carnunculation (bumps) are either gibbifloras or gibbiflora hybrids. I've never seen any like the ones in your first photo. The spacing of the leaves makes them look good even with long stalks.
