Guest Picks: Typography Love
Alphabets and initials from A to Z
There's something so sentimental about seeing your personal initials. A pretty alphabet spells cool in my book, whether you're decorating a nursery or your own living room. We may live in a time where you email correspondence, text love notes, IM conversations and no longer teach the classic cursive penmanship in most schools, yet many of us are still obsessed with typography. I've rounded up 20 favorite ways to spell out the alphabet in your home. — Jen from The Haystack Needle
Gilded Alphabet Set
My partner and I just introduced this collection of gilded alphabet sets to our shop, Cabin 7. They're inspired by the vintage letter blocks from our childhoods, but we designed these with a more modern, debossed lettering. We love the mix of the shiny gilded surface and raw cherry wood.
A-Z Melamine Coasters
This set of melamine coasters, with every letter from A to Z, features photographs of vintage signs. I'd use them to serve appetizers at a party — your guests would easily be able to spot which tidbit plate was theirs.
Recycled Alphabet Rainbow Crayons, Set of 26 by Art 2 the Extreme
This rainbow alphabet of recycled crayons is available for sale, but it's also easy enough to make yourself. All you need is an alphabet tray and leftover bits of crayons.
Maptote Buttons
One of my favorite designers, Maptote, just debuted an alphabet set of buttons. They would be perfect for a wedding — you can personalize each welcome bag with your initials.
Alphabet Tree
This linocut print features the alphabet swirling through the branches of a tree. The limited-edition print was made using a hand-carved block with gouache.
Botanica Caps Poster
This limited-edition print features a unique alphabet created with botanical illustrations. I'd love to have this framed above the desk in my home office.
Scrabble Mugs - W
Drink your morning cup of joe in a Scrabble mug (available in every letter of the alphabet). It'd be fun to have the whole alphabet set so that the family can play around with forming words over breakfast.
Raised Felt Alphabet On Wood Uppercase Set with Acorn Pouch by Wee Waldorf
These wooden alphabet cards feature a raised red felt letter, so your child can feel each one too. Babies love texture, so I'm sure this alphabet set would be a hit.
Around the World Letter
You can spell out a name or greeting — perhaps a "welcome" in your entryway — with letters that are wrapped in bits of a world map. It's perfect for the traveler at heart.
Gold Gilded Letter - F
F is for found: gilded letters you can hang on your wall — because your initials are golden.
Alphabet Wood Set by The Woodlot
This handcrafted set is made of slices of wood that are stamped on both sides with the letters of the alphabet. They would make a beautiful display.
The Alphabet Letters Stamp
One small rubber stamp features the entire alphabet! As a stamp collector, this makes me happy. I'd use it and some brown kraft paper to wrap my next baby shower gift.
Alphabet by Beauchamping
This print is made as a xylene transfer and features unique things that start with the different letters of the alphabet as black silhouette illustrations. My favorites include the unicorn, zeppelin and Xbox.
AAKKOSET Shelf
Wow, this is a room divider with the letters of the alphabet as open shelves. I love the idea of storing your books in this mod piece of furniture. It does come with a whopper of a price tag, however.
Alphabet Teethers
I love the font of these wooden letters, which also happen to be natural teething toys. They're so clever! Because my baby girl is teething right now, I keep seeing her put everything in her mouth. I think it'd be pretty cute to see her chewing on her initial.
26 Big Top Circus Typography Wood Type Cards by Yee Haw
I may not be a fan of clowns, but I do love the big top circus typography. This set of letterpress cards features the 26 letters of the alphabet.
Alphabet Notecard Set
There's so much to love about this set of alphabet cards. The illustrations are super fun and quirky, and the color palette feels retro.
duCDuc Alphabet Cotton Blanket - Brown/Pink
This cotton blanket features a hand-drawn alphabet in that scribbly style of print that a child would do. Plus, the blanket comes in a bunch of colors to coordinate with any family room.
Cursive Alphabet Fabric
This fabric design brings me back to elementary school days when I'd practice my cursive writing on lined paper. I'd make a pillow out of this fabric for the nursery.
Kids Colorful Alphabet ABC Rug
This alphabet rug would look super cute in a playroom or nursery — and it provides a soft landing while your kiddo learns to roll, crawl and walk.
