Stinky2 - not so stinky

This is Stapelia erectiflora, and this one I cannot smell any major stink at all. Maybe due its size, not sure, comes from Cederberg, Western Cape.

Beautiful! It looks like the perfect place for a fly to land. I don't have that plant but it's been my experience that they ripen to a nice stench after a few days in the sun. Let us know if it gets more stinky!

Saturated, anaerobic as jean said. The herbs won't be ingesting anything that will be harmful. Not sure why you would want to water saturated soil. In addition to jean's suggestion, if you have a slope you may want to help yourself by putting in a French drain. Lots of transferable skills learned in this simple activity. Dan

Stinky six-pointed stapelias

This is a stapeliad (in the stapelia family) rather than a stapelia. It's Huernia procumbens and it is blooming this week so I thought I'd toss in a pic. The flower is much smaller than the stapelias pictured above, probably the size of a US quarter or maybe a US fifty-cent piece. I hope you enjoy. I'm happy to have someone bring this method of control up this year. Lots of people like to use vacuums of one form or another. You can even find special garden vacs just for this purpose! So what if your neighbors think you're crazy?

cupofkindness - it is a beautiful color and the prettiest pale pink I could find in the SW store. My internet "inspiration" room was done in the White Dogwood but in that room the furniture and floors weren't as warm as the ones in my DD's room. pipdog - that is a beautiful pink room and not at all babyish. I'm afraid to try and find out what color it is now that I've settled on a color. I'm very indecisive when choosing paint :-D stinky - I'll be sure to post pictures!

I was thinking the same as Paul - my, what long stems you have! And I too have not seen anything like it before - who knew someone had put some Senecio in a Stap before.

I've never seen one with flower stems that long either! When I read the name, I thought, "Hey, wait! I have that one & it doesn't look like THAT!" Then I figured out...mine is erectiLOBA. Nice plant! And BEAUTIFUL snap of the bloom.

Thanks. Stems can be to more or less 12 cm. Looking at the flower arachniflora could also work...hehe. Those pedals will recurve more, freshly opened flower pic.

Here is the mature flower now. still no real stinky Ryan, some do not have the potency of say the previous O. variegata.

I've never seen one with stems that long either.
The ones I have aren't that stinky either,or at least I never smell them.
