My Very First Bud..!!!!!! YEAHHOOOO!!

I found it, today a bud, my first bud. On a Dr.Suess! IÂm so happy I just hope it doesnÂt fall.

Which one is this one Cassie?

It looks like you're losing a lot of leaves to. I believe you need a little more humidity.

I was so made with mine I hacked mine back and I'm sorry about it already. I could of waited another month before removing my indoor grown branches but what the hay...I've added a humidifier so the plants growth will agree with the outside environment more so than not.

Hey, Liz. About 35% is the default level of humidity I have in my basement light room, even with two humidifiers going and the door shut. I can get it above that for a few hours by splashing water all over the concrete floor. That raises it, but only for a while. So you're doing really well to have it at 40% default, IMO. And it's probably enough. I've read that if you place the MH about 12-18" apart, there's an overlap area between them of quite good light. But sheesh! They are very hottt. Do you put your catts outside in summer, or grow under the lights year round? And can you supplement with sun from a window? You may not need the second light for blooms if you can provide some sun in a window or outdoors. A lot of winter-blooming catts set their sheaths outdoors in fall, then develop them as the days lengthen in spring. On the other hand, a new light means you just have to buy more plants for the new space, so that's good, too :P

I have two Canary Birds (this is my favorite of all), one from pickering and one from Hortico. Pickering doesn't ofer it anymore, but Hortico ships really good ones. I already bought CBs for many of my friends from them. I like this rose so much and feel it is so bad it is not availavle in US. I am expecting one more next week. If you are interested I can donate it to you for planting at your work. Just let me know. My Primula is from Pickering, it doesn't have scented leaves blooms are less fragrant and bloom time is much shorter then with CB. My Hugonis is own root and I don't quite remember where I got it probably High Contry Roses. I love this one, but my problem is that blooms fully open only during the day when I am at work. In the morning and evening they are partially closed. So I can fully enjoy them only on weekends. Cantabrigiensis is from Pickering and it is too yong to judge, just one year old.

Averil, being in Northern Europe I've been trying to figure out how to make the A.s bloom here in my destination ... Just like you untill recently, but now you seem to have made it ... :-) There's the tomato feed, of course, but I also wonder where do you grow your plant(s). - In a window , greenhouse or what ? - Also, have you had sunny weather the days / weeks before you discovered the buds ? Thanks so much ladies! I can't wait to post a picture of my DoA's first open flower! This computer is so addictive ever since I found this wonderful site. My DH doesn't have the patience to even learn how to use a computer so he wanted to know what the "H" I was doing last night and this morning or should I say morning until this afternoon sitting in front of my screen!!!!!!! Its just a wee cutting I got in Septeber. I am still super new, I just started this last fall. I only have bought a couple plants, and the rest are cuttings and I have some crosses going now to. lol This bud surpised me BIG time Im am so happy! this was one of my very first brugs I got.

It's got hairy leaves...I do believe that it probably will be a double bloom.

Congratulations! The first bloom of the season is always so exciting no matter how long you've been growing them : ) Now LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!! Don't touch it, don't even look at it. lol Just wait for it to open and don't get upset if it aborts. Since you already got this one you'll get plenty more as the season progresses. Sandy why do you think fuzzy = double. They have nothing to do with each other and Dr Suess is a single deep yellow, similar to CG. They are often confused with each other.

Cassie, congrats! I know about being excited about seeing a bud! My first brug was a cutting of a white noid. When it grew and formed buds, I was so happy and took so many pictures, LOL!

I know right Karyan, lol leave it alone its so hard I want to carry it around with me. lolol do you think it will get bigger? Its just a bitty thing. Now IÂm combing thru all my other ones, lolol I hope it donÂt abort but if it does, I will still be happy I got this far lolol Thank you guys for all the encouragement growing these wouldnÂt be Â½ as fun with out you all.

Great Job Cassie!!!!! They seem to take forever before they open.. So hands off..LOL It will get bigger if it holds.. ought to be about the same size as the plant! It will be deserving of a pedestal.. 8)
