Post-op surgery update

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers during the time I had joint replacements in my fingers on Feb. 25. All seems to be going well. Tomorrow (3/13) I have an appt. with my hand surgeon to have the sutures removed as well as with the hand therapists. It'll be my first time of seeing the surgeon. I'll be so happy to soak my rt. hand in warm water as well as not having it wrapped in plastic when I shower. Meanwhile, I'm following the protocol of the therapist realizing this is a 3-mo. recovery. I fully expect a good result as I have faith in all the experts providing care to me. I'm even becoming proficient in left-hand typing. I continue to lurk and enjoy the challenges and support of our forum members.

I had incisions in front of and behind each ear plus one underneath chin. Have seen my PS three times and he says the lumps and hardness is scar tissue and will go away. I read that same info on line but it just scares me. Recommendation was to massage tenderly. Wore the neck/headwrap for 10 days per Dr instructions. I guess I just worry about things going wrong. Reputable Dr. but wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. At least you didn't but mine was a complete separation of the skin from muscle to tighten up skin.

I do too! Call your GP Monday if it is still lumpy, tell them what is going on. I am sure you chose a good plastic surgeon, but this doesn't seem normal. Keep that bandage tight!

No, I didn't report her even though she deserved it. My SIL would have been furious with me, and my in-laws would have too. This nurse was married to my lawyer, who was working on a political career (which he had some success with). This is a small town, and I just had the feeling that even though she would have been disciplined, too many people would have made me out to be the bad guy. I was much more passive then than I am now. I did report nursing incompetence once though. My son was born in this same small hospital, and he was the only baby there. 25 hours later a baby girl was born- there were still no other babies. When I left the hospital, I went home and went to remove his baby bracelet and it had the other baby's name, physician, birth info etc. I thought I had the wrong baby! I called the hospital very upset and they wanted me to bring the bracelet in right away- which I didn't do, I still have it. Apparently, even though DS and I were the only patients for a day, the nurses were having a conflict over who should do the task of putting the bracelet on and some other stuff, so nobody did it until the next day when they screwed it up. DS had to have his blood work redone, and so did the other baby. One nurse was disciplined. It did get back to me that some thought I was out of line for complaining, but I didn't care. As I told the administrators: "how do we know your staff hasn't mixed up babies before"? This was before DNA was done around here and if there hadn't only been two babies, one boy and one girl, it would have been a mess because I would wonder if I had the right baby!

I've had a morphine pump twice and this was my experience: I had *terrible* nightmares, just terrible. I was extremely agitated and irritable, lost time and got confused twice - and it got even worse for three days after I went off the medication - the morphine can stay in the system (for side effects to contine) for several days. Both times I was on the pump for five to seven days. The morphine was an extremely effective for pain management. I decided that if I ever need that type of pain management again, I will not go for a morphine pump, it will have to be something else, even if it's not nearly as effective for the pain, the side effects made me completely miserable. If he decides to go for the morphine pump, let him know that these could be side effects (very common side effects that I wasn't told about) so that he knows that the morphine is what might be troubling him and to know that he can decide to be taken off it - I didn't realize I was so miserable due to morphine and stayed on it until the doctor chose to take me off.

Hi Gramsharon, Wow another brug lover from Minnesota. I live between St. Paul and Hudson WI. I lurk here and have only been able to read stuff every couple weeks. It was in the 40's here yesterday so I imagine you had some nice weather also. I got wonderful, wonderful cuttings from people here last fall. Mine are still rooting in water but I am going to start potting them up soon (I hope). In Feb. I was hoping to start the Datura seeds I received but haven't gotten to that yet. Our beautiful weather is just a short time away, but I am very envious of everyone in a warmer climit. Have a speedy recovery and Hi to everyone else. Trude

Glad to hear your doing better. I know its hard but do what they say so you will heal fully. Glad you posted an update for us.

Wow stuff is happening to everyone! Hope you are feeling better..and that your procedure goes well.
I can definitely identify with the one hand/left handed typing lol. Its killing me not to go mess around in the dirt!

Hi, All......I am so fortunate to have such sincere and caring friends. Yes, Gramsharon is for Grandma Sharon. We have three grandsons. Our twins will be 4 yr. old Mar. 31, and their youngest sibling turned 2 in Dec. We who are grandparents know the blessing and joy we receive from our grandchildren. Trude, I live on the Iron Range of Mn., about 90 miles south of our Canadian neighbors. We've had some 40'-50's a few days this past week. It's been a very cold and long winter. But the blessings from this forum give me the yearning and faith soon we'll be back to nurturing and planting brugs and many other beautiful plants.
