I went by our largest nursery within about 40 miles today to see what they had for these stupid fungus gnats. I was hoping for Gnatrol but of course they had never heard of it. The lady asked me what I was growing and I told her brugmansia and she said huh? I said Angel trumpet and she said oh we had one of those once and I made them throw it away. It will kill you if you touch it. I almost fell out! I told her it is no worse than probably half the plants you sell here as long as you don't eat it. Now you know what kind of nurseries I have nearby and why I love the internet, lol.

I have become a leaf feeler. I pet those fuzzy guys. I guess I am lost in my flowers. I work and play with my plants.

Again, Out of control rumors just sicken me. Some kid dies from eating Datura, and the whole world goes crazy. Sheesh!

One local around here sells Datura double, he propogates by cuttings. He thinks it is a rare perennial, calls it Brugmansia. I straightened him out.

Another refuses to sell Brugs because they are toxic.

I used to rely on these guys for information.

Some people are just freaking rediculous. My ex came by one day to pick up our kids and he kindly let me know that my moonflower was poisionous. Hmmmm let me see the last time I checked my kids were teens. I wanted to scream at him that I have enough cold medicine and and they have access to the internet so they could get in a lot worse troble if they wanted to. Now I understand not to put anything in a toddlers way (yes I had to call posion control years ago) but geeze lets hope we have raised our kids not to go around eating plants. With all the things a mother of 2 teen aged girl has to worry about, I think them eating my plants is low on my list. :)

Hi Karyn: I think that's the nursery I ordered a bunch of plants from online. Haven't rec'd them yet, but am glad to hear they have "nice" stuff and are nice people to deal with. Must be the Spring is not here yet fever ... keep buying plants and seeds! Glora

Kristy.. I will.. Liz is holding a couple of things for me right now.. The Chief and Brugmansia Lapin Rose Doux (Sweet Pink Rabbit)..are new releases come Fall.. I am hoping to get on a waiting list... Ya'll need to check them out .. They are beautiful.. Don't forget to take a peek at their Passi's... WOW!!!

Mary that is so true! lol Gloria Pepper's Greenhouse is the same as Accents for the Home and Garden. What is with these people? Don't they realize that a significant number of plants are toxic. They had better go dig up their azaleas and lily of the valley and God forbid they have any euphorbias!

Cool, boy that pink rabbit one is a mouthful, lol. I wonder if its fuzzy. I told them that the ton of oleander bushes they sell are probably worse. I gotta go look at that website. I was on a waiting list for Miss Ellie from Brenda B and got it last week. It is yellow with a green throat like our Brenda's orange with the green throat. I would love to cross those two!

I made the decision at age 2 to stop eating plants. There I was, out in my back yard, bothering not a single person, as I stood and munched slowly on an elephant ear plant. I thought it was nice and tasty--a bit on the subtle side, though. I remember my mouth starting to burn some, but, what the hell, what's a little mouth-burning sensation, right? Then my mouth burned some more, then-hell has arrived as I ran in the house screaming, "Mama, Mama." I vaguely remember asking calmly what I had put in my mouth, and I guess I got better. Flash forward 30 years and my then 12 year old daugbter sticks her finger into the open cut of a split leaf philodendron, and then put her finger in her mouth. She stopped eating plants too. :)

Kind of like a rites of passage. Each kid needs to experience the horrors of too much chili for the first time.

Or don't eat that cabbage heart - you won't like yourself. . .

Or when you don't believe mom when she tells you drink your orange juice FIRST before you eat your milk and cereal. Yea, well, some things you just need to experience yourself. (grin)
