I am going so nuts tonight. The tornado sirens have been going for the last 3 hours. I was supposed to have class tonight but the University of Memphis as well as my children's high school closed all activities for possible bad weather. So far I am just insane from the sirens. On a positive note I have been able to get several brugs out of water and in dirt and have started some dats and tomatos. So at least I have been productive.

I hope that no tornados touch down near you. I can imagine hearing that noise for hours on end would put you on edge. Stay safe.

It certainly can be done...the tile will take the longest, then the hardwoods, carpet takes no time. If your builder gets it all lined up right...ANYTHING can be done. One day, I was at the house and there were about 6 guys doing base and crown, 2 master carpenters doing the fireplace overmantle, panel jambs, wainscoting and all of the built ins in the closet, a guy working on installing the cabinets, and painters working on the exterior! It was crazy, there was a circular saw going in almost every room! BUT...like post above said, it may very well take a little longer. Just mentally prepare yourself. You are so close!! We are about 5 weeks out and while I can't wait to live in our new house...I start hyperventilating thinking about all we have to do between now and then. But it WILL get finished! When the going gets tough...focus on some aspect of your house that your love and think about that. There are things in our layout that would have been nice to change...but it is so much nicer and better suited to our family than our old house! I am focusing on all the positives. Clare- This is the only brand I've tried so I have nothing to compare it to. BTW, there are lots of instructions for making chips in the microwave without the non-stick trays (see link below for just one such site). Additional tips... Bake all the smaller end slices first in one batch, so all the slices are a similar size. They may also require less cooking time. This is especially true with sweet potatoes that have a greater degree of taper to the tubers (say that three times - LOL). Then bake the larger inside slices in additional batches, which may take an additional 30 or 60 seconds of baking time due to the larger size of the slices. This is one of those principles I also use when dehydrating. This will help prevent the smaller end pieces from over-cooking and the large slices from under-cooking. Alternatively, you can also place the smaller slices on one side of your tray and the larger slices on the other side. Cook long enough to bake the smaller end slices, remove, then finish baking the larger slices. A cutting mandoline is a must for paper thin slices that are the same thickness whether you use a nifty gadget, the glass turntable (if you have one in your microwave), or a glass plate. Hey Amberley, Scrappy, & Bmorepanic (& anyone else in this MD/VA/DC)...we have around 30" here in Western Howard County. Drifts are quite a bit higher...the one we measured was 36" high! My DH just started slowly snow blowing our driveway. We have a fairly long drive, so it's going to take awhile...he figures it will take him at least 2 days to do it all! Our dogs refuse to budge from the porch...we have to push them off to "do their duty" on the snow rather than the porch! My DD tried throwing Ruby (the female) into one of the drifts...but she stayed on top and daintily walked down & off the drift! Heavy snow! But, we have a fire going and I just made hot chocolate for the kids (they just came in from playing out there-13 & 15 years old and still playing in the snow, I love it!), so we're doing great! I also made a big pot of chili for tomorrow and now I'm making pineapple casserole (me) + Roman Holiday (DH & kids) for tonight's dinner! I've been asking myself the same question lately. I was in New Mexico for 16 years so I know it can be better than this. But, duty calls; My Dad is 90 and my Mom is 81 so I need to be around to help them. They had just 2 boys and it doesn't seem right to leave it all to my brother to take care of. I do dream of living someplace warmer when I retire. As for right now; it's warmed up to -6 and the wind has died down so that the windchill is ONLY -27. It's time to go out and clear the driveway and shovel the sidewalk before it gets dark. Will someone make a cup of hot chocalate for me to thaw me out in a couple hours? Ron

Karen.how close are you to the boat,we are an hour from there. we live north of cincinatti. I hope none of you get caught up near a tornado. I remember when I was young a twister tore the roof off my uncles house it took it up in the air then set it back on crooked. no one was home so no one was hurt just the roof.it was really scary. Mary, I heard you all are having a lot of tornadoes touching town in Tennessee. I hope you are ok. Let us know as soon as possible and if we can do anything if you were affected.

DH looked at the map and figured we live about two hours
apart.

Wow you guys have a bad storm moving through. Try this link, I use it to track hurricanes to see if I need to evacuate. Do not know if it gives real time on storm tornados but it does track super cells real good.

Wow it seems as though the tornados were all around me. A mall was hit, it is not near where I live but is close to work, I am so glad I was not at work last night. A tornado was seen in the little town next to mine (I am actually in a little town/suburb of Memphis) where my kids go to school, thankfully that one didn't touch down. I think my family was very lucky last night. Thank you for everyones concern. I hope everyone else escaped harms way as well. How are things at your house Karen/gardenpaw.

Mary,so glad you are okay!They are saying on our local news that 47 people have been killed by those storms,Please be careful and take care,I think what is left of them is headed our way now.
Sibhskylvr was in a state that they say 11 people were killed,Gosh the old Mother Hen in me is coming out.Everybody please stay safe.

Were all fine here, it stormed late into the night and
there was alot of distruction not far from us, I feel so
bad for everyone in the storms path.

I hope everyone in that path is okay,Karen glad you are okay, it seems as if those storms just showed up,not really a lot of warning,but this weather is so strange it feels more like late March than early Feb.It has been in the 70's here for the last few days,really scary weather.I sure hope everyone checks in,they know we are all a bunch of mother hens,and of coarse,daddy roosters.
