You have my sympathy! I think the closest to MN I should get is the Prairie Home Companion. I have enough trouble dealing with the winters in Pennsylvania! (In the middle of a snow squall as we speak, wind loud.)

You love the midwest. Friendly people, low cost of living, low crime and four seasons. What more could you want?

LOL It was lower than that yesterday here! I didn't want it so I sent it over there! ;)
It was horrible yesterday with 11 below for a high and 40-45 mile an hour winds with windchill down to -48. This morning air temp was -24 but thank gosh the winds have died down. Still awful, horrible, bitter, cold here like -40 WC.

Dh and I were talking this morning, can you imagine wayyyyyyy back to the years when there was no central heating system and you had to harness up a horse to go anywhere?? Now thats worse!

Yep...you are....but not any crazier than I am living in Iowa...we are freezing in here too. I'd turn the heat up but Jeff living upstairs gets all the heat and it cooks him out. I think we need a big fan to circulate the heat and even it out.

I sit here at the computer with my ceramic element heater....I love my heater.

Marita, I lived in Minnesota for three years and didn't go outside during the below-zero days - it was insanely cold, ten feet of snow wasn't uncommon, and the wind was awful!

The summers were mildly sweet except for the voracious mesquitoes who thought I was their favorite diner!

I am originally from Illinois, so I KNOW all about lots of cold and snow, but Minnesota was even WORSE! We got our first snow about October 10th and it stayed frozen until the first of June.

I did evaluate why I was there and headed back to Kansas City - LOL. I couldn't live up there now that I am older. You have to be of Swedish, Nordic or German decent to live up there!!! I think it's even too cold for Eskimos!!!

Every July I say I don't mind the Minnesota winters, but that's July talk! Actually, we always get through it, and live to tell the tale!
And one day it will be warm enough for this to happen....

After living in Illinois and Mass. for over 25 years I must admit I am glad I left and live out in California now. I don't mean to rub it in but we just had lunch out on our deck and it is sunny and 75 deg. I am in short sleeves and working in my garden. Yeah, you put up with a lot living in CA, but the weather makes it worth it. And no bugs. I use to get eaten alive back in the Midwest.

I don't know why anyone would want to live in frigid temperatures. Went out a little bit ago and it was freezing cold here, supposed to be around 30 but with the wind blowing it felt like 5.

Oh gosh, aptosca, you are rubbing it in! Shirt sleeves, lunch on the deck, gardens--it all seems like a mere fantasy, never-never land, on days like this in the frozen north! And frostedc, sadly we DO suffer tornados and 100 degree summer days (our summers continue to get warmer).

Beautiful day here on the Texas Gulf coast. We haven't had a hurricane since '83. Hurricane Rita, a couple of years ago, dumped a quarter inch of rain on us.

I admire the fortitude of those of you who can live with cold for so many months out of the year. Our winter lasts maybe 3 weeks with warm days in between the cold ones. That is long enough for me.

I've been asking myself the same question lately.
I was in New Mexico for 16 years so I know it can be better than this. But, duty calls; My Dad is 90 and my Mom is 81 so I need to be around to help them. They had just 2 boys and it doesn't seem right to leave it all to my brother to take care of.
I do dream of living someplace warmer when I retire.
As for right now; it's warmed up to -6 and the wind has died down so that the windchill is ONLY -27. It's time to go out and clear the driveway and shovel the sidewalk before it gets dark. Will someone make a cup of hot chocalate for me to thaw me out in a couple hours?

My weather's pretty much like Marilyn's b/c I'm about 200 miles from her. The sun has been shinning all day and DH is out mowing and I've been out adding stuff to the compost pile and turning it. We have trees budding out and it's shirt sleeve weather. I guess it's what you get used to, but I think I'd be depressed living where it was so cold.

25 below as we went to church this morning, but now 11below and some wind. You just layer and find the right clothes. My snow boots are from Canada and so toasty warm. under our usual warnings, snow, wind, etc. but expect 20 above sometime this next week, maybe etc. You know Connie, whatever the weatherman says, you just look outside to see if he and you are in the same state.

I'm not in MN but on the border and it is very cold here also. As much as I hate the cold winters, I wouldn't change it for the world but maybe when I'm closer to retirement. I love the snow and I love 10 to 20 degrees above. I hate the below zero stuff we have now. But I think they said that by Tuesday it will warm to the 20's. I do admit, winter gets long and as far as I'm concerned it can all melt and warm up to the 50's and 60's come March 1, but that probably won't happen.

Ouch! I don't think my old bones could take it Marita. Better you than me. LOL Seriously, the older I get, the colder I get. I better stay right here on the high and dry plains.

I think we have less below zero days then the folks down south have over 100 days.

OK, I know those are the two extremes, but I wouldn't want the ICE in the middle either. Believe me snow is easier to drive on then ice.

AND besides that, our family is here!

About a month from now, we will have nothing to complain about. lol

i'm planning on staying in till it breaks...can't take the chance with the darn windshild wipers, anyway...they broke once again for the 4th time!

Well, I'm in the Dallas area and today it was in the low 70's and sunny. Some of the early trees have buds. I spent several hours outside on my patio.

Come July when it is in the upper 90's everyday I will wish I was up north, though! I will be in my house with the air on.
