Found out the cause of the PVS deaths

I found out what was the cause of the death of my Battus philenor aka Pipevine Swallowtails. It was quite simple. We had a new 'cat preventative' of the feline sort sprinkled out in the garden and it contained citronella, garlic, and diatomaceous earth. Some of it must have wafted onto the leaves of the Aristolochia that I'd' fed the larvae.

How did I determine this? Last night, I'd collected some leaves from some Cheeseweed to feed the West Coast Ladies (Vanessa annabella) and this morning I awoke to a similar looking catastrophe (no pun intended!). The Cheeseweed is located right next to the Aristolochia.

Oh well. Such is life. If we didn't have such !@#$%^ problems with our neighbor's cat...
