Rhonda, sounds to me like you have an indoor project for your sprouted seeds...if you put them out in freezing weather now you could lose them.

That happens occasionally with seeds, usually very fresh, which most of the time can be expected to need a warm, cold, warm to germinate - hellebores for example. Once in a while, they pop right up and surprise you, leaving you giving them TLC until the weather improves.

Nope your code was not right- if lily seeds kept at temps of about 64 F they will germinate in about 4 weeks. If you keep them at much higher or lower temps they might go into second dormancy and THEN you will need cold stratification. It goes for about all lily seeds. I got this info from hybridizer of orienpet lilies, he is the one of those people who actually created that hybrid so he should know ;)
Keep them indoor under lights, give plenty of fertilizer, make sure that original starter leaves are always green and fresh- they are indicator of bulb health and proper development.

I cross pollinated asiatic, trumpet, and oriental seeds a couple of summers ago - I kept them in the refrigerator til last January and WS'd them. There are a lot of seedlings and they are all mixed so not sure what is what.
They have been outside ever since. I plan on leaving them outside all winter - if we get a really hard freeze I will probably bring them in - but does that sound like the right thing to do? There must be at least fifty seedlings.I haven't transplanted them and they are in an aluminum lasagne pan without a cover.

I am in zone much colder than yours so my experience might not be relevant. I would still plant them in the soil even now, mulch it well and leave it be. Lilies you mentioned should be perfectly hardy to do so. With lilies as with any bulbs all their food is kept in the bulb itself and it does matter how well you fertilized your seedlings during the summer.
Lilies breeder that I was privileged to visit grows his lilies in zone 4-5 and starts his seeds in the early spring plants them out in the fall and let them fend for themsleves. Not only that he does not even has supplemental water to his fields! And anyone would be amazed seeing those acres of blooming lilies...

lindalana, thank you. I have some formosanum that I grew from seed that are blooming plants now but I can't remember how I grew them and had no idea what to do. I know there was a hybridizer from Oregon several years ago and I think his name was DeGraff. I hope to get some flowers in a year or two.
