Wood floor--What do I do where the patterned entry meets planks?
Comments (1)The herringbone is going to come in at a 45 degree to the planks, no? So you will need to cut each one of those anyway. If you cut them, you can route them. The plank will have a tongue straight across the door unless you run it from that wall into the opposite, in which case you just put a spline in. And if you have routed the herringbone, you just slip them over the spline. I do it all the time. If you've never routed anything, just go buy a router and table. You can get them both for $150 or less. No need to go top quality since it's not your life work. Just get a good 1/4 inch bit and remember that the wood is made so that the tongue or groove has more wood on top than on the bottom. Take a look at any piece of flooring and you'll see what I mean - the groove is not dead center along the length. It's not that much extra work. Don't know how your transition is going to be - in other words is there a doorway or an arch or something? If so, you can put a strip in there to break it more cleanly visually. In my house, I had a lot of wood around, so I put in something like wenge, maple, birch, walnut, or something similar. They are at the same level so you don't have something raised between the two. I hate not having the 2 tied in. Some people don't go thru the effort I mentioned, but for me it's the best solution by far....See MoreWhat do I do if I cant trust my husband???? Help Me Please!!
Comments (15)WOW All we got here is a lot of neuroses popping out in all directions ... someone who was cheated on is SURE that the behavior means cheating, someone who was not cheated on thinks it means nothing ... and we have no real substantive data to make an evaluation on, so we all go off half-cocked based on our own positive or negative neurotic interpretations of her situation. None of that helps ... So what to do ? Well first of all concentrate on your own mental health and happiness and stability OUTSIDE of fixations with him. Reward yourself a couple times a day in some small constructive way for good things you do. Reward him in some small ways with a "thank you" when he does something good for you ... "Catch him doing something good" make the most of things and be as positive as you can be. If there is a real and substntive problem, it will eventually be fully revealed, if not, worrying and crying and getting upset will not help ... but just create a problem for you and him both. Make yourself happy and healthy. Dont hold your life hostage to his....See MoreWhat do I do with this brick entryway?
Comments (6)How long has it been there? We have Chicago brick several places in our home, outside chimney, house half bricked in it, inside accent wall or two..and it's dusty and chippy, chimney is literally falling down in process of being repaired...I am a bit amazed it is holding up to being walked on. Regular sealing would for sure need doing. If you seal it do you have to strip and begin fresh every time or just keep building the sealer up? Stripping it would not be a thing I would sign up for even once....See MoreHelp! What do I do with my stairs?
Comments (8)The railings and the panels on the side of the stairs seem to match really well with the ceiling in the other room . I would leave them alone. The stairs themselves look great. IF they are in good condition, leave them be. What is underneath the laminate on the steps? Is it just plywood steps or do you actually have oak treads? If you have oak treads and have some money to burn, you can have them stained and paint the risers for a different look. But leaving them alone is just fine!...See MoreAndrew Lau
