Unhappy aloe, browning and curling leaves..

Hey guys,

I have had an aloe for about 5 months that I got from Lowes. When I purchased it, it was dripping wet in a mixture that looked sort of like what store african violets come in(that dries hard like a brick). It also seemed to have some rot on the outer leaves under the soil level, which I trimmed off and repotted into a something similar to gritty mix, a very coarse mixture. I water it about every 2.5 weeks, thoroughly until water comes out the bottom(which is almost immediately because of how big the mix is). I thought it should do well.

Last night I noticed it had a brown tinge to it. The tips on the longest pieces had dried and shriveled some and all of the pieces looked thin and hollowed out, curling inward.. I read that this may mean it isn't being watered enough??

I watered it last night and it still looks shriveled and sad today. What can I do to help this plant?? Thanks!
