Nice pics. as usual Vera. That's an interesting sedum - saw it last month in Wakefield but didn't know what it was. They can be quite invasive sometimes, but at least this one is pretty in Fall.

I love that sedum, too. There is one nursery nearby that has so many beautiful, interesting varieties of succulents but they sell for about $5 for a 4 inch pot! I'd have lots more if they were not so pricy. Why do you suppose they are so expensive? Don't they root easily from cuttings?

Yeah, I don't understand selling sedums so pricy! They root with speed and don't need any special attention. My last quarter of school (spring 06)one of my classmates wanted to do some sedum as part of her final crop. I supplied her with pieces from every type I had and she made even more pieces out of what I gave. She ended up with a gazillion plants to sell LOL!! All of these rooted within 5 days.
The sedum reflexum in my first post is a moderate spreader. Another one I CANT rid of and have tried, is the Sedum album. This one will engulf the world and I SWEAR they continue to grow in winter!! This would really be a nice one to cover a bank or area where nothing else is planned to go and it does start turning a nice deep purple beginning now; covered in white flowers in spring.

Also taken March 22th...Here's a section that got it self started (from no doubt one tiny leaf)outside the bed. It's starting to green up again and lose the purple. You can also see the Sedum reflexum still bright orange growing beside the Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce', The 'Blue Spruce' is a soft blue in summer but mute purple/grey in winter...

I'm not sure what the name of this one is, but here it is in bright yellow flowers over very low bright green foliage. It never exceeds 3" and is a pretty good self-starter but not even close to Sedum album! Spread is moderate...

there are about 300 varieties of sedums, not all of them are hardy. local wholesale nursery grows about 100 of it, I have seen their presentation. Chicago is one of the leading cities on roof gardens and sedums are very popular. Not only sedums are easy from cuttings, they are easy from seed as well.

I'm learning more and more here every day -- I didn't know sedums came true from seed -- I wonder if that variegated one of Vera's with the pink flowers would come true?

Vera, They all look great where you have them, and how you have them in the big spreading clumps.

And yes! That rose is exactly what it's supposed to look like. Very straight stem -- I think that is worth bonus points on the scale, but now I don't remember what I read...all I know is mine looked like they had advanced osteopoosis -- bent way over! What do you think about it? I was wondering if somebody with a little property and time could sell them to florists at a premium price.

Great pix. And now you've given me an idea --

I have a big long bank that was covered in grass and weeds which I cleaned up and where I planted some vinca minor a few years ago. What a job that was. The vinca doesn't seem to be taking off though. I mulch every winter and spring to keep the weeds down, hoping the vinca will spread.

Now I have a backup plan. If the vinca doesn't make it, I'll put in sedum alba...

Sedum and sempervirens are VERY popular in our dry summer climate.
Lime, you bet they would make a hot item! I took 2 quarters of Floral as an elective on the way to completing my greenhouse degree. I remember that our 2 local suppliers charged about $8 per stem of Ornamental Kale/Cabbage because they are considered a specialty item. Most non-specialty items were like $8 a bundle of 20 stems of whatever!
