The Dayspot light is useless. I wouldn't use artificial light on a Ficus, they do fine in low light. For an individual spot on a small-ish plant, get a clip-on desk lamp, ideally with a reflector, and put in the highest power compact fluorescent bulb you can find.

Worry about the Jade, they won't do well in low light. Jades prefer some direct sun, certainly the brightest available light if they don't get direct sun, you should be looking for a couple of thousand foot-candles or more in summer, but you can use less in winter if you keep it cooler and drier.

Variegated plants inevitably grow more slowly than fully green ones but I don't think you'll have too much trouble with this one. High light plants like Jade Trees tend to be limited by other factors.

I've another question rearding my own Sunset Jade... it's very small---about an inch and a half tall, and I've just repotted it from the tiny plastic variety into something slightly larger as to not upset the roots by giving it too much room too quickly. However, considering the climate here in Northwestern Indiana, keeping it outside really isn't an option.

As is, I have the plant with a few cacti beneath a flourescent lamp. The cacti there have done beautifully--- and bloom every time their blooming season comes. Will the Jade, by rights, do well here, too, or do I need to perhaps make other arrangements? The table I have it sitting on is by a north window, and so it doesn't get too much actual sunlight. There, though, is an eastern window with a table I could put it on if this would perhaps be better for it.

(P.S. Would having my Jade set outside during the summer for a couple of hours be a good idea? Indiana summers are typically hot and humid--about 80-100 degrees F. and my yard is shaded enough to not give the plant 'sunburn' while still giving it plenty of sunlight.)
