Some info I found said Jackfruit soil should not be amended w/fertilizer until 3 months or established. When grown from seed, checking the roots each time it is repotted. If the tap root is bent, cut just above the bend, or the root system will be compromised, and a weak , non fruiting tree will be the result. Once sprouted, they are grown in the greenhouse for about 30 more days. Then, they are transplanted in a deep 4"by 4" by 14" deep nursery pots with standard nursery mix, same as what they are sowed in. 40% peat, 30% coarse sand, 20% cypress sawdust, and 10% perlite. 100 days in 50% shade house, with overhead irrigation for 12 minutes a day. At this time of transplanting, they get a slow release fertilizer (18-6-8 nutricote), a drench of liquid fertilizer (20-20-20) and chelated iron(sequestrene) at recommended rates. At about 100 days they are the diameter of a pencil, perfect for grafting. Those that are not grafted are checked for tap root restriction, and cut if necessary, then transplanted into a 7" by 7" by 14" nursery pot. They are then given another dose of the same fertilizer treatment as the first transplant. Temperatures are about 82-89 and 77 at night, fahrenheit. Ph is 6-7.5

Beware!!! i got those by buying food in walmart .you can get them enywhere you buy food expecially pet food. check packages before purchacing . if you see web or larve dont buy it. I have eliminated successfully the indian moth . by trowing away every open and anything that showed sign of contamination . sprayed interior out and toop of my cabinet with flying incest killer . then 24 hour later i cleaned every single cabinet with bleach and dish soap. then placed in containers the good food and wiped clean cans with alcohol. then 3 days later placed everything back in the cabinets and placed a lavender leaf in cabinet also you can use moht balls to repel them. after that even if you see 3 or 4 flying around. kill them for peace of mind but after they dont find more food they will not lay eggs cause larva will starve to death.

It's an addictive and gratifying hobby, Sarah -- congrats! I raised (indoors) and released 17 monarchs a few weeks ago, and thought I'd spend the rest of my summer watching Mother Nature do her thing in the comfort of my A/C home. I don't even know how this started, but I'm now fascinated by swallowtails! I now have an assortment of dill, fennel and rue ready to either go into larger pots or into the ground -- depending how hot it gets tomorrow. The fennel plant I grabbed today had a couple of eggs on it. :D You can make out a darker one to the lower left of the white one -- looks like the dark one should hatch any day now. Sooo exciting.
