Blank Canvas - looking for inspiration

Hello everybody,

I have dug a dead piece of Gum Tree into the ground and am looking for inspiration.

Now my project is already running over budget, I have spent $10 on ribbing and drank six beers after digging the hole and moving the log, so I want to try and use some of my existing plants to keep within budget.

Vriesea Clump

My plan is to place the 3.Aechmea Pup into the fork of the tree and surround it with some of the Vriesia clump, intermingle some Neo Fireball X for some colour. Staple a few Nids around the stump, drape a bit of old mans beard over the ribbing and admire my work with a coldie.

Does anyone think the Mamorata X, Bilbergias or Blanchetiana might make a better centre piece?

Any other ideas out there?

Will the plants I've picked grow without dirt?

I know some of my Broms look pretty shabby, I am not a closet bromeliad abuser, most of my plants got smashed up by a wicked hail storm last October.

I'm pretty busy this weekend so I'll probably wait a week and try and create a masterpiece next weekend and post some pictures of the aftershot.

Thanks,

Rick
