Moving and I need input.

I am moving in the next two months and I have a nice collection of hipp. Johnsonii that I grow in the ground here. I want to take them with me but they are far from dormant yet. I need to get them out if the ground now because if an offer on the house comes, plants are considered permanent parts of a house. If I dig them up and lay them out would that be alright? I have read not to cut the leaves. Also does anyone have any experience growing these in the ground in Ohio? I have read reports of z6 with them but Ohio is z5b I think. Any input would be appreciated they are my favorite flower of spring and I would hate to lose them.
