Controlling Koi bamboo

Hi, I have recently planted 3 clumping bamboo's in the front of my house with good success. I have an area in front of the entrance to my house that used to have a hedge. It is approximately 12 feet long, and about 3 feet wide. On the house side, it is bordered by cement, about 4 ft to the house. On the lawn side, it is bordered by brick.

Today, I found some nice Koi bamboo and purchased it, but realized its a runner. I still want to grow it, but am worried about how aggressively it will run. I live in Phoenix, and the area gets pretty full sun. I realize there is a lot of hysteria about running bamboo, I don't want it to cause any damage to the foundation of the house, is this possible? I've heard barriers don't work well either. Should I just be hyper vigilant and attack the edges of the space with a spade frequently?

Thanks for any help, I really like the Koi variety and would like to see it fill in my hedge space but not anywhere else!
