Well, what a spring. Dennis is still getting chemo and we are nearing the end. My 2nd hip is scheduled for July 16th. In the meantime, I fell a few weeks ago. fortunately, I just irritated my lower lumbar disc and have gotten an epidural to relax the muscle and help my back get back together. I didn't injure either hip (THANK GOD!!)

The grandkids have been here visiting from Chicago for almost 2 weeks. It is so quiet here now, we hate it!! Now we are getting some good rains so i can get back to gardening. Soultan...your 'surprise' bulb is begining to open...Peruvian Daffodil, I hope, I hope!! Miss you all!

Cindi, you are having way too much fun with those gorgeous kiddos! I think I better come and help you with them next time! And the beach, I think you need help with that also!

1--The bad news is that the local postmaster who has been so helpful in the past is no longer there. He is no longer employed by the USPS....sigh 2--This AM I called about making an appointment with the person in charge. I spoke with the 'officer in charge'. When I asked his name, he gave me his first name, and would not give me his last name. Why would he have refused me that info? 3--I explained that I had several padded mailers that I had received in and they were unopened, and the customers who had sent them had been overcharged. I was wanting to bring them in, and have him (or anyone for that matter) inspect them and determine that they had indeed been overcharged. I explained that I then wanted a signed piece of paper saying that they were overcharged. He said he could not help me and gave me the telephone number of Consumer Affairs in Louisville. Well, I know from talking to someone down there a while back that there was at that time no Consumer Affairs Manager and that NO ONE was even an acting manager. gggrrrrrrrr........ 4--This week I received in a bubblie from Williamsport OH 46134 that was overcharged. It weighed .7 OZ yet was charged $1.05, which is for a 2 OZ large envelope. That means that either the clerk failed to weigh it, or else their scale needs calibration, thus is overcharging a lot of customers. I got a tel# for that PO, and when I called it, I get a non working # recording.........ggggrrrrrrr.........shot down on getting that done. 5--I was on the phone probably 30 minutes or so this AM with the USPS complaint #, getting 3 separate complaints filed. I have the confirmation numbers on all 3 of them and someone is supposed to call me back within 2 business days. Yeah right. I'm not holding my breath on that one. On the one report that was filed for overcharge, I have asked that the overcharge be sent to me. I wonder how they are going to handle that. shall I go on? Anyway, I this AM I learned about Restricted Delivery. Below is the info on that. Restricted Delivery Be sure your mail gets into the right hands. When you want your mail to reach a specific recipient, use Restricted Delivery. Sometimes, you might have private or highly classified documents that you require to be seen only by the addressee. Restricted Delivery ensures that your mail is only delivered to the person you specify, or to the person authorized in writing to sign for intended recipient. I just checked and the cost on a 13 OZ First Class Parcel, sent Certified, with Restricted Delivery signature and signed receipt of the person that accepted it being sent back to me would be less than $11. The exact amount escapes me now. What a bargain, huh, if the Parcel gets to someone who does their job? I have started to compose my letter to The Honorable John E. Potter..but will have to abandon that until I am feeling better. Postmaster General U.S. Postal Service 475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW Washington, DC 20260-0010 I also found an email address for him this AM, not that anyone would even really read any of the complaint emails and actually respond. I found the addy at the Answers.com site, so don't put much faith in it being up to date or valid. E-mail: pmgceo@usps.gov Light bulb moment. I can try taking in the overcharged envelopes, (one at a time might be best) along with an email from the member who sent them and they can authorize me to file for and collect the overcharged amount. I would think that would generate paperwork and that paperwork could then be used as additional evidence (proof) of the 2 year 9 month old problems of post offices across the US overcharging.

Glad you managed to get lot of stuff cleaned out. I was cleaning in my garage all week. What a mess. The black sooty stuff from last yr's fire had gotten into everything. Trying to get more organized. Finally got large cabinet over workbench cleaned out just taken since 1985, tried it several times but too painful. All those little things he did came flooding back & I would quit (He died at work-heart)Working on projects with son, making me cookbook cart, mantle on each side of fireplace, all the stains & stuff he used. Well after 24 yrs I can do it. I think it was because he was crazy about his job & often did custom jobs for people, boss would say, can you make a bed for so & so. Someone wants an ebony desk! He loved it. I had cleaned out his clothes & stuff yrs ago but this felt like I was invading his space (or my memory bank) So have 1 cabinet I want to get cleaned out & more organized hopefully today. Would like to paint all 5 cabinets a light blue with an antiquing stain. The walls are wood paneling in medium tone so figure that would look nice. After I read your post about cleaning out I did some in house & have it almost ready for yard sale. Anyway glad you are making progress, maybe someone else started cleaning out because of your post too.

I tortured this moso boo. Started as seedling and left it and 100 other siblings out in hot sun in one inch by one inch 1020 starter sets on my driveway all last year. Got drenched and dried all summer and only grew to two inches. Only 30 survived. Then brought inside house and baked in boiler room for most of winter till only about ten were alive. Then planted out in middle of winter to dog run. Were all top growth died back. Only one survived. Then my dog peed on it. This in my effort to make a new master race of moso bamboos. I deep dug this 10 foot circle and mixed in lots of leaf mulch, grass clipping. It has since been planted with P. Vivax "springhill" in the center. The rest around it is a tropicalesque garden with various aroids, bananas, callas, etc. I had to remove eight wheelbarrows of dirt after I was done digging I fluffed it up so much and added so much organics. Don't blame me for the horsy mailbox. That's my mother-in-laws doing. I love my wife so I had to put it up. Here's some of the plants I started from seed and the tropicalesque plants I'm putting in: I put in six laburnums last summer along the driveway and they are flowering: The Verbascum "Banana Custard" I planted last year are flowering: Not your usual verbascums the flowers are 2" across and as of today the plants are ten feet tall. My patch of 39 A. Sikokianums below are doing good. I just planted 6000 seeds I got from them in a 12 by 8 foot bed a week ago. Next I am having 3 trees chopped down so I can put in a vegi garden. I had to sell my lake and Herptile Preserve because it got to be too much for me.

It's going to be lovely, M! You are taking your time and doing it right, and it will pay off in the end. I have some Indian hawthorne along one wall of my house that was there when I moved in. I thought it was boring and planned to take it out, but it has now filled out nicely, and looks pretty, and best of all, it has had not one shred of maintenance or care from me. That tells me it is a plant it and forget it kind of shrub, and in some areas, that's just what you want. I think you'll be happy with yours. Keep us posted with new pics as things start filling in. It will be fun to watch it all grow! Marcia

Lizalily=c'mon down! I would take you to all the beaches and Islands and we would sip Mojitas in the shade of palm trees!! I still, after 30 some years, am so blown away at the beauty of the green/aqua waters of the Gulf when it is clear. Makes me think I should get to the beach more. With my limited mobility, I took those beach pics and a lot of the others comfortably seated far away with my Zoom on my digital. I am up tonight, doing the babes leftover laundry, ironing little tee shirts and shorts and gently packing them up to send to Chicago, since they ran outta luggage room. Dawn said I was CRAZY, still it makes me still feel close to them. Boy, I miss em so much all ready!

Soultan......A-N-T-I-C-I-P-A-T-I-O-N!!! Hopefully will pay off tomorrow!! I will post photos, it's looking good even if a little bruised and burnt around the edges from the dry hot weather we have had. The rains are waking it (along with Roseum). Roseum is the only amy that didn't sprout or bloom for me yet. It is getting green and growing now. Love ya, my friends!

Cindee - I'm so bummed! Every time I click on your link to see your slide show, it tells me there's an "internal server error", and my "request cannot be processed"! Not to worry! I'll have Larry take a peek at it when he arises... he's a night owl, so I must wait until around noon for him to get up! He'll know what to do. It might just be due to our very cloudy and rainy weather... or... I don't know.

I know exactly how you feel, now that the kids and grandkids have left... I experience the same thing every time we visit our grandkids... when we leave, I miss them so much! It's a bad case of separation anxiety!

When I was a kid, my parents took the family to the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area every year for vacation... I love the Gulf! We'd bring our trailer, and camp out at Ft. DeSoto Park on Pinellas Island... I think that's what it's called. We always had a wonderful time... and my Dad would wake us up very early, before the tide came in, and we'd walk the sand bars... looking for shells or coral, or whatever goodies the gulf hiccuped over night and left on the sand! And at night, we'd go down to the Ranger Station and feed the raccoons... or go into town, over that really long bridge, and eat at a fancy restaurant... like "The Kapok Tree"... what a cool place! Oh, the memories...

And every trip, on the way up and down... all we'd see were signs for "See Ruby Falls" and "See Rock City"... you know the ones I'm talking about! They're posted like every mile! And you can climb up and see 7 States from one point... even though it all looks like the same terrain when you're a kid! But, what a blast! Two weeks every year, Florida and the Gulf... and all the cool stuff you can do in that area! For years, every January, we'd pack up the car and trailer, and head south! Mom and Dad, and us 4 kids... all fighting in the back seat of the old Country Squire station wagon! What wonderful memories... just wonderful!

We weren't able to take our kids on a lot of trips... but I'd really love to take them now, with the grandkids... that would be so awesome!

For what it's worth, I know your slide show is excellent, having seen your others! And I'm sure Larry can figure out how to let me view it all!

Wonderful photos, Cindee! For some reason, I still cannot get to your link... but the photos you've posted are awesome!

The Passiflora is one of those "Weird & Wonderful" things that just blow your mind! What shape and color!

I bought a Hymenocallis bulb, planted it... and here it sits. It hasn't even rooted in well. Even the Scadoxus bulb is finally showing leaf tips... but the Hymenocallis could be a ping pong ball for all it's grown! What's the secret?

Yours is gorgeous, Cindee! It looks so delicate and fragile! But it's very pretty... I wish mine would do something!

And your Rain Lily... aren't they wonderful little things?!! I just love them!

Well... as soon as I walk Maia, I'm off to get some snapshots of today's gardens! I just know you'll all love the Roses!

Geee, Nine, I am close as can get to a Klutz, but Lutz??? I don't know!

Soultan, my dear, they are still poofing out flowers from one spike and I have been self pollinating the flowers. It's funny. I can stick my nose in them and get no scent. But I work at the potting table next to them and their scent softly touches my nose. What a delicate beauty! THANK YOU!!

Yay! For some unknown reason, I am now able to view your photos, Cindee! Great set of pictures! The grandkids look like they're having a blast! I bet they love visiting the Grandparents in Florida! I know I would!

In case I never told you, you have a fantastic pool! It looks very inviting! Add to that all your lovely plants and garden areas, and you have a little piece of paradise!

By the way... I have Tithonia sprouts ready to plant in the garden! I can't wait to see them bloom!

Have fun trying pollinating the Hymenocallis... I read somewhere about them that they are self sterile and don't bare seeds, so they can only be multiplied by bulblets.
