Moving existing wildflowers (weeds?) to a planned planting area

Okay, I have finally decided to stop fighting the climate and plant those plants and trees that do well here. I have been wandering around the property, pruning the gobs of mesquite trees and I've seen a couple of beautiful little weeds? or wildflowers whose foliage wasn't too objectionable and that seem to be thriving, so now I want to transplant them to beds closer to the house. How could I best accomplish this without killing them? They really are pretty, one has tiny orange flowers and red stems with dark green foliage and the other has daisy-like flowers. That's all I know, I am a desert rat and new to gardening. :) Oh, and a side note, anyone know how to get mesquite root snarls out of the ground?
