The soil in those pots do look a little dry. Have you been watering? Also, how did you split the pup off of the parent plant? Third question, are those 2 potted basjoos normally in the house this time of year? Get those babies outside!!

Yah, the top of the soil does look a little dry, but its only on the top. It seems damp underneath the cover though. I was a little worried I was maybe overwatering them.

When I split the pup from the parent, I just took a knife and cut down in the soil around the pup, and then transplanted it into the little container. In the process, I had to cut through quite a bit of roots from the main plant. The main plant seems to be growing new roots since then though. Maybe the banana has experienced some trauma and has focused on growing new roots? Not sure.

And third...I only wish I could get them outside, but I basically live in the City in Cincinnati, so I pretty much have to keep them inside (or not have bananas!)

Have you fertilized them at all?

Yah. about once a month, I've been putting in 4 Miracle Grow fertilizer spikes.

You might try some other species of banana more suited to being kept indoors. Basjoo is not likely to do well in the long term indoors.

Dear cincybrad, the close-up looks like you have a problem with spider mites. I think it is important to get the plant outside, treat the infestation and allow it to make the most of the summer.... Robb

Looks like a spider-mite problem to me too. Try some neem oil.

Thanks guys and gals. That kind of makes sense. Being inside in the Air Conditioning meant it didn't get really any humidity. I'll try and take care of those darn mites.
