Hiya campv and all,

Yup, that's me and my little garden in that testimonial for Miracle-Gro at that link at the top of our AZ gardening forum.

The folks at GardenWeb approached me and asked if I'd mind filming a commercial in my garden and I said no of course, and then when I heard it was Miracle-Gro I was even more excited as I really DO use their products and have since I was a kid.

I'm glad you liked it. I think they did a great job and made my little garden look its best. Thanks for noticing and commenting! Happy gardening all,

By the way, the camera crew was in town to film the awful Jodie Arias trial--they were SO RELIEVED to have something else to focus on. They said I am much nicer than Nancy Grace, hah!

Gold Medal. Stick it in the ground, water and forget. Magnificent yellow flowers with pink edges and underpetals. Tamora, an Austin rose. Does not shrivel or blacken in heat (of which we have a lot in SoCal). I planted 3 of them and they are developing into lovely shrubs. Pink Peace, Takes infinite levels of neglect, but blooms true and fragrant every year. Everything else I have is too new to evaluate. One I would never buy again, though, is Double Delight. I moved it out of pitiless sun to a place where it gets afternoon shade, and the plant grew a little better -- still, however, few blooms and those are small and disappointing, especially when compared to the huge flowers it produced at first. Plant seems to have all sorts of problems, bugs love it, mildew, etc., which my other HTs don't. Doubly disappointed so far. Sylvia

Hello gem You are not alone, I have no shade either so have to move things around. I'm hoping to plant some trees this fall and maybe some vines and bushes. Hopefully they can get a good start before the heat wave next summer. Whenever I'm out somewhere I look to see what others are having good luck with in this heat. In the meantime I am trying to build up my planting areas with lots of compost and mulch so when I find what I want I'll hopefully have some nice soil for them to grow. What I do have planted I mulch well and water deep. Good luck and Happy Gardening Gemfire

We are doing the guest room over for DGS here too with baby #2 planned for next year. We have blues and tan and red in the linens as well as white and a little lime. The walls will be tan with white trim. We haven't bought the area rug yet, but the curtains will be the same navy with top stitching in all the colors from the quilt. Since he has the front bedroom looking out on the street, DD wanted curtains for privacy. Also using honeycomb shades in white under the curtains. We need new lampshades, and I think I will trim up some white shades with the colors from the quilt. We will also be buying a little decor for the walls, though his great grandmother made a darling framed needlepoint locomotive picture for his dad that will be highlighted. And he will get to display some of his dad's mobiles from his room when he was a boy. When his other grandparents visit from out of state, they will use his new room, and he will be bunked somewhere else in the house for the duration of the visit. That will be interesting to see how well he might sleep elsewhere.

Hi Grant!

I just noticed the link and it was really cool to see you doing the commercial for MG. That must have been a blast and it was great to see your garden in toto. I love that end shot where you can see Hercules framed by the circle of your arbor. You did very well narrating everything too. Now the rest of us who haven't met you in person know you a little better.

Thanks, Haname, I'm glad you liked it. It was a fun little thing to do. I'm glad it didn't show that I was in a rush to get packed and in the air for a weeklong road trip right after the shoot, LOL. I think they did a really good job.

Very nice, Grant! You have so many interesting plants and such a variety of nice-looking specimens; I'll bet they had a field day choosing what to include ;)

Thanks, AZGardenQueen. Funny part was that during the day of the shoot, the quail eggs in my crown of thorns pot were hatching so I kept steering the filming crew away from that area. Talk about bad timing, hah! Luckily the crew stayed out of that corner of the garden and the babies all jumped out of the pot and joined mom and dad after the shooting was done.
